ROTHERHAM v WYCOMBE – Pick: 1 AH-1 – 20 November 2012

Millermen look to grind out another win

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Tuesday 20th November 2012 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

Rotherham United entertain bottom club Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night and they’ll be looking for all three points in order to break into the play-off pack and maintain their push for promotion into League One.

The Millers suffered a surprise rare defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge week before last foing down 0-5, but they bounced back straight away with an important 4-2 home win over third placed Cheltenham Town on Saturday. Not only was it important for them to bounce back with a win but it also meant that they pegged back one of their promotion rivals too. Another win tonight, and they’d be really amongst the chasing pack putting pressure on the top three teams.

Rotherham have been strong at home so far with victories over Burton Albion, Bradford City, Torquay United, Oxford United, Morecambe, Plymouth Argyle and Cheltenham Town the teams all being despatched. Perhaps more importantly, four of those seven wins were by a 2+ goal margin and they will need to make sure against Wycombe.

Rotherham’s home record stands at  7-0-2  20/10 and they possess plenty of firepower for manager Steve Evans to play with; leading scorer is striker Daniel Nardiello (7 goals, 2 assists) who grabbed 2 goals against Cheltenham on Saturday, Michael O’Connor and Ben Pringle (4 goals each) and forward Alex Revell (3 goals) are the main goalscoring contenders. But also consider the fact that no fewer than thirteen (13) different players have contributed assists!

Visitors Wycombe Wanderers are currently propping up League Two having not recorded a win now for six matches with four straight defeats and two draws the return in the last few weeks; losses against Port Vale 1-4 away, 1-3 at home to Oxford United, 1-2 at home to Rochdale and 1-3 away at Northampton Town have been stemmed only by draws against fellow strugglers Aldershot Town and Barnet.

Looking at The Chairboys’ away record which stands at  2-1-6  9/18, they haven’t offered much in terms of attack on their travels whilst only Dagenham, AFC Wimbledon and Oxford United have conceded more goals than them on the road.

Now the interesting bit – of the six away losses they’ve suffered, four of those defeats were by at least a 2-goal margin, with just two clean sheets in their last ten away matches. As mentioned in previous previews, their leading scorer is Joel Grant with just 4 goals to his name and this should not be enough to trouble Rotherham on home ground tonight.

Pick:  Rotherham United AH-1 @ 2.11 Pinnacle looks an inviting price indeed
