Salernitana Preview – Can Salernitana extend unbeaten sequence?
Despite being handed an opening day 1-0 defeat in Serie A at home to Roma, Monday night’s hosts, Salernitana, have produced similar stubborn characteristics to that of last season’s survival so far in this new term as they have put together a three-match unbeaten run, which consists of a win and two draws.
Points picked up in draws with Udinese and Bologna, both of which were away from home, were either side of an impressive 4-0 romp on home soil against Sampdoria and no doubt Salernitana fans will be hoping for more of the same when they entertain lowly Empoli at their Stadio Arechi on Monday evening.
Overall results have certainly been much more encouraging for Salernitana as they have suffered just two defeats out of their last 12 matches overall and was the catalyst behind producing an unexpected but successful fight against relegation from the Italian top flight towards the end of last season.
Having lost just three of their last 11 home games as well in Serie A, Salernitana look far better equipped to get a result this time around against an Empoli outfit whom they lost 4-2 against at home in their previous meeting.
A number of Salernitana’s players are injured, including Franck Ribery, Emil Bohinen, Matteo Lovato, and Ivan Radovanovic but the hosts are a very different prospect now.
Empoli Preview – Can Empoli open account?
Empoli currently occupy 14th place in the early Serie A standings as the visitors have managed to pick up just three points from their opening four games of this new Italian top flight campaign and just three points from the possible 12 on offer to date, thanks to stalemates with Fiorentina, Lecce and Verona.
Empoli have found league wins hard to come by though, not only in the first few weeks of this new season but also last term as the visitors have recorded just two victories from their last 25 matches overall, which surely does not bode well for this upcoming trip to face a vastly improved Salernitana outfit.
Results away from home have been even worse where Empoli have been concerned as the visitors have collected just one win from their last 13 outings on the road which includes six defeats and also a worrying six games where they even failed to get on the scoresheet.
Having also managed just three clean sheets within this poor sequence of results away from home, Empoli look to have their work cut out and a repeat of last season’s 4-2 win against their hosts looks highly unlikely this time around at the Stadio Arechi.
Due to injuries, Empoli will be without Nicolo Cambiaghi and Lorenzo Tonelli.
