Although the focus this weekend will be the UEFA Nations League, there’s still action in the lower leagues in England, and my next few picks look at the National League with Salford City taking on Maidstone United with betting tips in the non-league top flight.
It’s been a steady rise in fortunes for Salford City who achieved promotion from the National League North at the end of last season but they also have substantial financial backing behind them which is the envy of most of the National League teams this season.
Possessing this financial clout has enabled Salford to capture the services of in-form striker Adam Rooney (7 goals from 9 matches) from Scottish Premiership side, Aberdeen, who opted for the National League over participating in the Europa League.
Salford started the new season in slow fashion as they were without a win from their first three games, but Graham Alexander’s side have since put together a solid run of six matches without defeat which includes winning their last three at home on the trot against Halifax, Chesterfield and Barrow.
Maidstone United only have goal difference separating them from themselves and the bottom four in the National League as they make the long trip up north for this Saturday’s clash at the Peninsula Stadium.
The Kent outfit have had to endure a miserable time of it of late as they’ve suffered four league defeats on the trot with losses to Maidenhead United, Boreham Wood, Gateshead and Sutton United, along with a losing streak away from home.
Maidstone have lost their last three away matches on the trot and the bigger picture tells us that they’ve kept just one clean sheet from their last 16 outings on their travels in the non-league top flight.
My betting tips suggest this is a bad omen for Maidstone as they come up against an in-form Salford City and Rooney combination.
