An interesting battle is next up between Santos and Chapecoense as the betting tips continue in Monday night’s instalment of the Brazilian Serie A at the Estádio Urbano Caldeira.
Santos occupy 8th place in the Brazilian top flight but all three points this evening would see them jump into 6th place and move aside Atletico Mineiro into the last remaining and more financially lucrative, Copa Libertadores qualifier spot.
As it is, Santos already look likely to claim a Copa Sudamerica berth as they hold a comfortable six point margin ahead of 13th placed Corinthians, and with a fairly decent home record of 8-5-3 24/10, the hosts look set to continue their ascent up the table.
The hosts will be looking to return to winning ways though after losing 3-2 away at Palmeiras which ended a six match run without defeat, which included recent wins over Atletico PR, Vitoria, Corinthians and Fluminense.
Onto Chapecoense, and the visitors are firmly entrenched in a relegation battle at the foot of the Brazilian top flight, sitting second from bottom and three points adrift of 6th placed Sport Recife and safety ahead of their difficult trip to Santos.
The visitors have lost three of their last four in Serie A with defeats to Vitoria, Cruzeiro and Bahia, and although they’ve recorded valuable wins over Atletico Mineiro and America Mineiro in recent weeks, these were both registered at their Arena Condá ground.
Results away from home have been Chapecoense’s achilles heel though with an overall record of 0-5-11 9/32, with only Sport Recife (38 goals) and Vitoria (33 goals) possessing a worst defensive record away from home than them.
Along with losing their last four on the trot on their travels, Chapecoense have also failed to hit the back of the net in 9 of their 16 away matches to date this season.
