Seongnam Preview – Can the hosts finally get their noses in front at home?

It took them until the second half to establish a lead, however, the seven-time national champions made no mistake up against the team cut well adrift in last place, wrapping up a 2-0 scoreline away to Incheon United on Sunday. Just a fourth win win in fifteen since the season begun in early May, as Seongnam (6th – W4 D5 L6) continue to fuel their early reputation for being something of an away day specialist.

This season, all four wins garnered thus far came away from their Tancheon Stadium, where they remain one of two teams – the other, unsurprisingly, is bottom side Incheon – still to record a home win, despite already having seven bites at the cherry. In fact, no team has registered fewer points (2) or goals scored (2) in home matches so far than Seongnam, who have racked up five defeats in seven home outings.

Four of those losses on their own patch were without scoring, while it is also noticeable that all four wins this season were accompanied by a clean sheet. Seemingly, then, this team becomes exposed as soon as a game opens up a little. In which case, upcoming opponents Busan Ipark, with one goal and three blanks in their last four K League games, might well prove to be the perfect opposition to end the barren home spell.

Busan Ipark Preview – Goals, as well as points, drying up?

A season of fits and spurts so far for Busan (9th – W3 D6 L6). Enduring a seven-game winless re-introduction to life back in South Korea’s highest division, after finishing second in last season’s K League 2 en route to securing promotion via the play-off, the four-time K League 1 winners would eventually establish a foothold. A six-match unbeaten spell, comprising three wins, followed before embarking on another rough period.

Their 2-0 loss away to Sangju Sangmu last time out, conceding twice inside the final quarter of the game, made it three consecutive defeats, to go with the 3-0 and 1-2 reverses sustained versus Daegu and Ulsan Hyundai, respectively. A lack of potency in the attacking third to blame for this recent slump, netting only once – a surprise equaliser at home to Ulsan, moments before conceding again – in the last four.

Busan can, however, take heart from the fact two of their three wins so far came away from home, overcoming Incheon 1-0 and Gangwon 4-2. The latter one of just three occasions this season in which manager Cho Deok-je has witnessed his side notch more than once in a league outing. In addition, his team retain a lopsided away record (W2 D1 L4) at this stage, with three of four said defeats without scoring.

Seongnam Vs Busan Ipark Betting Advice

The hosts are presented with what appears to be an excellent opportunity to register a maiden home victory of the campaign, taking on a Busan side which is bound to be short of confidence following three consecutive defeats. The latter have also found goals hard to come by, netting once in the last four league outings, which could be fairly ominous with Seongnam relying on shutouts to secure their wins this season.

Seongnam Vs Busan Ipark – Key Facts

  • No team in this season’s K League has accumulated fewer points at home so far than Seongnam (2), who are one of two teams still to record a home win.
  • After scoring in four successive away encounters, Busan Ipark have subsequently failed to score in back-to-back away league outings, losing on both occasions.
  • A second meeting of the season for these sides, having shared the points in a 1-1 draw on 27 June. The seventh-straight meeting to feature fewer than three goals.

All four of Seongnam’s victories in 2020 were achieved whilst restricting the opposition to no goals, and so a home win to nil, at 31/10 with BetVictor, is one way of extracting value from the hosts. Clean sheet or not, the home side are given the tentative vote to comply on Friday, with an improved run of form, having won two and lost one of their last four league match-ups, boosting their claims here.
