Sevilla will be hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the new season when they entertain Las Palmas at their Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in order to maintain their position near the top of La Liga.
On the back of a solid start in european competition which has seen Sevilla emerge from the Champions League play-offs with a 4-3 aggregate win over Turkish club Basaksehir, along with securing a valuable point in a 2-2 draw away at Liverpool in the group stages on matchday one, Sevilla have also made a good start on the domestic front.
The hosts have won three of their first four league matches with wins over Getafe, Eibar and Girona, and they’re unbeaten in their last 15 home matches in La Liga, along with beating tonight’s opponents Las Palmas 2-1 the last time they met on home turf last September.
Visitors Las Palmas sit mid-table in the Spanish top flight following two wins and two defeats from their first four league matches of this new campaign. Las Palmas got off to a poor start as they suffered back-to-back defeats to Valencia and a 5-1 thrashing at home to Atletico Madrid, but they’ve since bounced back with a couple of encouraging results.
Recent wins over Malaga 3-1 away from home and last weekend’s 1-0 home win over Athletic Bilbao shows signs of recovery for tonight’s visitors, but they’ll have to be on top of their game this evening if they’re to take anything from Sevilla here I feel.
To underline this, Las Palmas’s win at Malaga ended a poor run of eight defeats on the trot away from home, and indeed this has been their only success from their last 20 matches on their travels in La Liga.
