Shamrock Rovers return to Irish Premier Division action on Friday night following a brief sojourn in the Europa League where they reached the second qualifying round.
Shamrock saw off Icelandic outfit, Stjarnan, in the first qualifying round 2-0 on aggregate, but were then sent crashing out of the european competition by Mlada Boleslav 5-2 on aggregate at the second qualifying round stage. In between times, they’ve suffered heavy defeats in club friendlies to Celtic and Burnley, 9-0 and 4-0 respectively.
Rovers did manage to bounce back though last time out with a 1-0 win away at second placed Dundalk which will have given them a timely boost ahead of tonight’s fixture with Bohemains. Shamrock have won six of their last eight on home turf, with striker Shaw (6 goals) doing most of the damage.
Visitors Bohemians make their way crosstown to Shamrock Rovers looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat in the Irish top flight following recent losses to Dundalk, Finn Harps and Derry City which has left them in a mid-table position.
Bohemians have posted mixed results away from home so far this season in the Premier Division as they hold an inconsistent looking away record of 5-0-5 11/13, which includes recent wins on the road at Bray Wanderers, Galway United and St Patrick’s.
Despite their five losses on their travels so far though, Bohemians do carry a goal threat in the shape of striker Corcoran (11 goals), and with this being a local derby, I’ll back that both teams hit the back of the net tonight.
