Although Shrewsbury Town eventually missed out on an automatic promotion spot in League One, The Shrews know the importance of continuing their recent upturn in form as they start making plans for the play-offs, starting with the final match of the regular season against MK Dons.
Shrewsbury have drawn with Bury and Blackpool either side of a 3-1 home win over Peterborough United, and whilst they’ll be disappointed they missed out on a top two finish, they can be pleased with their impressive campaign which saw them push Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic all the way.
Shrewsbury have lost just twice in their last 13 matches overall, while their home record stands at a strong 14-4-4 32/16 with the home side able to produce goals from various parts of the pitch with midfielder Nolan (9 goals) and forwards Payne (11 goals), Whalley (8 goals) and Morris (6 goals) being the main threats.
MK Dons will bow out of League One on Saturday evening when they play their final match of the season at Shrewsbury, knowing that their bitter rivals, AFC Wimbledon, will remain in the third tier while The Dons will drop down to League Two.
Unfortunately, the writing has been on the wall for some time, and manager Keith Millen has been unable to halt the alarming slide down the league table which has ultimately ended in relegation following their most recent spate of six defeats on the trot.
The Dons staged a brief revival in march which saw them win three out for four with wins over Rotherham United, Bury and Gillingham, but defeat has never been very far away where MK Dons have been concerned in this disastrous campaign.
