Silkeborg – Early momentum with Monday’s hosts?

Buoyed by their highest league finish in more than two decades, Silkeborg have sprinted out of the traps to assume second spot, behind Nordsjaelland who are the only team to have won every match so far. After a shaky start initially, when former Aston Villa striker Nicklas Helenius struck twice in the second half to rescue a 2-2 draw away at newly-promoted Lyngby, the one-time Danish league champions have found their stride.

Victory last time out against Brondby, defeating last season’s fourth place side 2-0 at home, earned Kent Nielsen and his team their second successive three point haul. This after producing arguably the display of the campaign thus far to inflict a 3-1 loss upon Midtjylland away from home on Matchday 2. Now, they return to JYSK Park where they can boast wins in five of their past six Superliga home fixtures.

Key Stat: Last week’s 2-0 win at home to Brondby snapped a five-game streak without a clean sheet for Silkeborg, whose shutout record isn’t the best having registered only three across 17 previous Superliga matches.

Aalborg – Winless stretch into double digits?

Only the big two of FC Copenhagen and Midtjylland won more matches (both 10) on the road in 2021-22’s Danish Superliga than the seven of Aalborg, whose tally of 25 points from 16 away games was very nearly as many as opponents Silkeborg would earn on home soil. It is this which should serve as inspiration as De Rode go about arresting their longest winless run in the top-flight for thirteen years.

AaB find only Odense beneath them in the standings after three games of the new season. Lars Friis’ side opened with successive defeats to Viborg (2-1) and FC Copenhagen (1-3) before putting their first point on the board with last week’s goalless draw at home to promoted Horsens. The raw numbers suggest they should have won that game, but they didn’t, and are now 10 SL games without winning (D2 L8).

Key Stat: Aalborg would lose four of the last five Superliga away games (D1 L4), after previously recording five consecutive away victories in the competition.

Silkeborg Vs Aalborg Betting Advice

When taking into account the starts both teams have made to the fledgling Superliga season, it is surprising we can get odds close to even money about Silkeborg building on such a promising start. Monday’s hosts are W2 D1 thus far, which compares rather favourably to that of Aalborg who are D1 L2 for the season and D2 L8 across their last ten Superliga fixtures. Then there is the head-to-head between the sides…

Silkeborg Vs Aalborg – Key Facts:

  • After winning the side’s most recent encounter 4-2 in May 2022, also here at JYSK Park, Silkeborg have now won the past three meetings, which is their longest run of consecutive victories versus Aalborg.
  • Over 2.5 Goals has produced a winning selection in six of eight prior Superliga meetings between Silkeborg and Aalborg. This includes all three games played between the teams in 2022 (all three saw Silkeborg win and both teams score).
  • Silkeborg forward Nicklas Helenius, who has found the net on all three matchdays of this season’s Danish Superliga, leads the way in the Superliga scoring charts on four goals, alongside Midtjylland’s Anders Dreyer.

Silkeborg have won the last three league meetings, which is their longest ever winning streak against this particular opponent. All three saw Over 2.5 Goals. And, courtesy of Opta, we know this fixture has produced more goals (216 in 78 games, or 2.7 per game) than any other fixture for Silkeborg, who would also score on at least two occasions in every league game this season but didn’t earn a clean sheet until MD3.
