Following their recent 5-2 mauling on home turf at their Studenternas IP ground, Monday’s hosts, Sirius, have since steadied the ship somewhat by picking up points in draws with 3rd placed Elfsborg 3-3 away from home and a 1-1 draw on the road at Mjallby.
Sirius will be keen to dismiss their recent defeat at home when they return to their more familiar surroundings and rekindle the sort of form which saw the hosts pick up back-to-back wins against Orebro and Norrkoping in the matches beforehand.
Indeed, form at home has been reasonable enough for Sirius who have lost just two of their last eight matches, while in their last meeting at home against Varberg, Sirius ran out comfortable 2-0 winners when both teams were in the Superettan.
Varberg Preview – Can Varberg spark a response?
Four wins from their opening eight matches of the new Allsvenskan season saw newly-promoted Varbergs start their Swedish top flignt campaign in promising fashion, thanks to wins against Helsingborg, Falkenberg, Kalmar and Mjallby, but results since have taken a nose-dive.
Varberg have failed to win any of their last five matches overall in the Allsvenskan which includes defeats against Norrkoping and Djurgarden, but they have picked up points in draws with AIK, Elfsborg and Ostersunds.
It’s worth mentioning that three of Varberg’s four wins to date have been achieved on home turf at their Varberg Energi Arena, but an away record of 1-2-3 8/9 consists of just the one win at second from bottom outfit, Helsingborg, so they could well struggle against Sirius here.
