It’s all to play for in Group E as three teams can still finish in second spot. Slovakia know they have to defeat Azerbaijan and hope that Wales and Hungary finishes as a draw. If so, they will qualify for Euro 2020.

Slovakia Preview – Can Slovakia get the win they need for qualification and hope the result goes their way in Cardiff?

Approaching the hour mark on Saturday and it was all going well for Slovakia. Winning 1-0 away to Croatia they were beginning to dream of the three points which would have put them in a great position for finishing in the top two and reaching Euro 2020. Those hopes were dashed when conceding three goals in 14 minutes and are now hoping that the results fall right for them in the final round of games. In reality, traveling away to the best team in the group who themselves were requiring points was always going to be a huge challenge. Slovakia’s main issue in this group has been taking just a point from their two games against Wales. Should they fail to qualify it will be those games they will look back on with regret.

There is some comfort for Slovakia in that they have a fallback option should it not go their way tomorrow. That being they could yet go in the playoffs via the Nations League route – again depending on other results. The Slovaks will be hoping to avoid that, however, and qualify at the first time of asking.

Azerbaijan Preview – Are Azerbaijan set to spoil Slovakia’s party and pick up points for just the second time in this group?

In a group that looked very competitive and of teams of a similar standard Azerbaijan stood out as being the one that was always likely to be cast adrift. With one game left it’s very much went that way as they sit at the bottom of the section with just one point to their name. Somewhat amazingly, though, that solitary point came via a draw against Croatia. It was a remarkable result and one they rightly celebrated but it’s been their only positive thus far.

What Azerbaijan have been throughout this section is stubborn, especially on their travels. The three away games so far have seen them concede only five goals. Considering their opponents have been Croatia, Wales and Hungary, that’s no mean feat. They will look to set-up in a similar way tomorrow and frustrate Slovakia as much as possible.

Key-Facts – Slovakia vs Azerbaijan

  • Despite taking the lead away to Croatia on Saturday it ended in disappointment for Slovakia, eventually losing 3-1
  • Azerbaijan have been the lowest ranked team in this section and will finish bottom of the group regardless of what happens tomorrow
  • Slovakia thumped Azerbaijan 5-1 away from home when the two sides met at the beginning of June

Slovakia vs Azerbaijan Betting Advice

It was plain sailing for Slovakia the last time these teams met as Slovakia crushed their opponents 5-1 in the summer. They could love for this game to go the same way and get the three points without any dramas. Even then, of course, it may still not be enough if there is a winner in the game between Wales and Hungary. The only result in that game that would see Slovakia through is a share of the points courtesy of their better head to head record against the Hungarians.
The only home win for Slovakia in this section so far came against Hungary in the first round of games. As alluded to above, although the visitors have not taken any points on their travels they do not go down easily. All three of their losses have been by one goal and they have scored away to Wales and Croatia. That’s the danger that Slovakia have to be wary of but they should have enough to win the game and hope for the best elsewhere.
Due to Azerbaijan’s stubbornness and Slovakia not being prolific at home it makes under 2.5 goals look appealing.
