Slovakia and Cyprus go head-to-head this Tuesday night in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The Slovakians are currently on six points in Group H, four points adrift of the top two. As for the Cypriots, they are bottom with four points to their name. Cyprus held Slovakia to a draw when the two met in Nicosia back in March, but the home side are the clear favourites to get the win at Tehelne pole in Bratislava in midweek. We have the latest odds and tips.

Slovakia Preview – Will the Slovakians strike back?

Slovakia have had a mixed bag of 2022 World Cup qualifying results so far, winning one, losing one and drawing three of their opening five games. After drawing 0-0 with Cyprus in match one, the Slovakians drew with Malta and beat Russia 2-1 in Trnava in March.

However, in the September qualifiers so far, Slovakia have taken just one point from two games. They drew 1-1 with Slovenia in Ljubljana last week but followed that up with a narrow 1-0 loss to Croatia in Bratislava at the weekend.

Our betting prediction:
Slovakia to win & both teams to score

After suffering their first qualifying loss last time out, Stefan Tarkovic’s troops will be eager to get back to winning ways at the first time of asking on Tuesday. The bookies have them as the big favourites at 2/5.

Cyprus Preview – Can the Cypriots shock the Slovakians?

To no surprise, Cyprus have found it tough going up until now, winning one, drawing one and losing three. They are level with Malta but are bottom with an inferior goal difference.

Despite their lowly position, Cyprus have certainly held their own in a tough Group H. After opening up with a goalless draw with Slovakia, Nikos Kostenoglou’s side were narrowly beaten by Croatia in Rijeka. Cyprus caused an upset in game three, beating Slovenia 1-0 in Nicosia.

Since returning to qualifying action, though, Cyprus have suffered back-to-back defeats without scoring. After a 3-0 loss in Malta, the Cypriots were beaten 2-0 by Russia at the GSP Stadium last weekend. They now head to Slovakia as the 15/2 underdogs.

Slovakia vs Cyprus Betting Advice

The game back in March was the first meeting between the pair since 2007. Slovakia were the favourites in Nicosia, but Cyprus held their guests to a frustrating 0-0 draw.

In UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying, Slovakia beat Cyprus in both matches. Before a 3-1 away victory, the Slovakians thumped the Cypriots 6-1 at home, with both Marek Mintal and Filip Sebo scoring doubles.

Key Facts – Slovakia vs Cyprus Betting Tip

  • Cyprus held Slovakia to a goalless draw back in March
  • Slovakia have drawn three of their five qualifiers

On paper, this should be a comfortable win for the hosts. However, Cyprus held firm in the reverse game and will no doubt be tricky customers for Slovakia. Still, the home side should just have the edge. Take a punt on the hosts to win by one goal at 5/2.

Even at the tender age of 34, Marek Hamsik remains a crucial cog in Slovakia’s machine. Put some money on Hamsik to score anytime in this one at the solid odds of 6/4.
