Slovakia Preview – Will the Slovakians strike back?
Slovakia have had a mixed bag of 2022 World Cup qualifying results so far, winning one, losing one and drawing three of their opening five games. After drawing 0-0 with Cyprus in match one, the Slovakians drew with Malta and beat Russia 2-1 in Trnava in March.
However, in the September qualifiers so far, Slovakia have taken just one point from two games. They drew 1-1 with Slovenia in Ljubljana last week but followed that up with a narrow 1-0 loss to Croatia in Bratislava at the weekend.

Despite their lowly position, Cyprus have certainly held their own in a tough Group H. After opening up with a goalless draw with Slovakia, Nikos Kostenoglou’s side were narrowly beaten by Croatia in Rijeka. Cyprus caused an upset in game three, beating Slovenia 1-0 in Nicosia.

Since returning to qualifying action, though, Cyprus have suffered back-to-back defeats without scoring. After a 3-0 loss in Malta, the Cypriots were beaten 2-0 by Russia at the GSP Stadium last weekend. They now head to Slovakia as the 15/2 underdogs.
