Slovenia and Greece square off in UEFA Nations League action on Thursday night. This is a League C fixture, with Kosovo and Moldova also competing in the group. On paper, these two teams should be battling it out for top spot in Group C3, but who can get off to a perfect start? This promises to be an intriguing fixture at the Stozice Stadium in Ljubljana. Our preview has the best betting odds and prices.

Slovenia Preview – Can the Slovenians avoid a fourth defeat in five?

Slovenia have not played since September last year, but Matjaz Kek’s men have been in patchy form in their recent matches. Since five 1-1 draws on the spin from October 2018 to March 2019, the Slovenians have won four and lost four of eight.

Slovenia were in with a chance of qualifying for UEFA Euro 2021, but three defeats from their last four put paid to any slim hopes. Last time out, they were beaten 3-2 by Group G winners Poland. Overall, Slovenia won four, lost four and drew two of ten Euro 2021 qualifying fixtures.

Our betting prediction:
Greece to score first
7/5

In the inaugural Nations League event a couple of years back, the Slovenians had a tournament to forget, losing three and drawing three to take just three points from a possible 18. As a result, the nation finished bottom, though they avoided relegation due to the change in format for the 2020-21 Nations League campaign.

Greece Preview – Will the Greeks keep on improving under Van ‘t Schip?

Greece were competitive in the 2018-19 Nations League, picking up nine points. However, they went on to finish third in Group C2, a point behind second-place Hungary and three points adrift of eventual winners Finland, who were both promoted to League B.

The Greeks were also unfortunate not to have qualified for next summer’s European Championship. Italy were Group J winners with a staggering 30 points, but Greece finished just four points behind runners-up Finland. John van ‘t Schip has done a fine job since taking over, guiding the nation to three wins from their last three qualifiers. However, it was not enough to book a place in the 2021 Euros.

On their day, Sky blue-white – who shocked the world when they won Euro 2004 in Portugal – are capable of beating anyone. Can Van ‘t Schip’s boys get all three points from Thursday’s trip to Ljubljana?

Slovenia vs Greece Betting Advice

This will be the first meeting between these two countries since a 1-1 friendly draw back in May 2012. Overall, they have met just five times, with Greece winning three and the other two ending all square.

Key Facts – Slovenia vs Greece Betting Tip

  • Slovenia have lost three of their last four matches
  • Greece head to Ljubljana having won three fixtures on the bounce
  • The Slovenians have never beaten the Greeks in five attempts, losing three and drawing two

Van ‘t Schip – a former Ajax youth coach and assistant manager – has made a positive impact since taking over of Greece’s national team in July 2019. After a tough start, Greece turned a corner at the end of last year, winning three on the spin before football came to a standstill.

We fancy the Greeks to make it four victories in a row with three points in Slovenia on Thursday. Check out the decent odds of 19/4 for the away team to be winning at half time and full time at the Stozice Stadium.
