Group 3 in league C of the Nations League sees Slovenia looking to inflict more away day misery on a Moldova team who are looking for their first win on the road since November 2018.

Slovenia Preview – Can Slovenia get their first win following a hard-fought draw with Greece?

It was a fairly low-key start to proceedings for Slovenia who shared the points with Greece at home on Thursday. It probably shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering how closely matched those teams are and also because it was the first game in 10 months. It’s clearly going to take time for Matjaz Kek’s team to find their rhythm together and this game appears to be a good opportunity to do just that. Kek will celebrate two years in charge of the national team in a couple of months.

Slovenia enjoyed a decent enough showing in their Euro 2020 qualifying section, eventually finishing level on points with third place North Macedonia. Home wins over Poland and Israel have given themselves something to build on heading into the next year.

Our betting prediction:
Andraz Sporar to score in 90 minutes

The first objective for Kek and his players is to find their first win in the Nations League. Their previous section seen them draw three and lose three back in 2018 and they will be hoping to do better considering what has gone since.

Key to Slovenia’s hopes of improvement is Andraz Sporar. Prolific for his previous club Slovan Bratislava, he’s now playing in Portugal for Sporting. He will be hoping to better his record of two goals in 16 caps so far.

Moldova Preview -Are Moldova capable of getting a result and ending a run of seven straight away defeats?

It’s never easy being one of the minnows of international football and Moldova know all about that. They come into this game in dire need of a turnaround in fortunes on the road having lost their last six and eight of their last 11 – scoring just two goals in the process. Engin Firat took over as coach in October of last year and if he didn’t know the size of the task which awaited him beforehand he certainly will now. Firat remains in search of his first win.

Moldova’s last win as a team was back in June 2019 when they defeated Andorra 1-0 in Euro 2020 qualification. That was the only points they took during that campaign, however, eventually finishing bottom.

Moldova’s performance in the first Nations League campaign was encouraging with two wins and three draws in their six group matches which was enough to see them move up a league into the third tier. They have started this section positively enough as well with a 1-1 draw at home to Kosovo on Thursday. It looked for long spells they were going to win but a goal late on by their opponents spoiled that.

It would be some achievement if Firat could get his first win as boss in this fixture.

Slovenia vs Moldova Betting Advice

It’s not a game that will get the neutral’s pulses going but it’s an important fixture for both Slovenia and Moldova. The hosts have to be winning this game if they are to challenge for promotion and pick up their first victory in the Nations League along the way. For Moldova they have equipped themselves well in this competition but have to continue that improvement away from home where they have struggled so much.

This will be the first time the teams have met in 15 years.

Key Facts – Slovenia vs Moldova Betting Tip

  • The stalemate with Greece on Thursday means Slovenia have drawn their last four games in the Nations League
  • Moldova have scored just two goals in their last 11 away games – losing eight of them
  • The nations last met in qualification for the 2006 World Cup when Slovenia won home and away

Slovenia have show how capable they are at home in recent times and their additional quality should see them pick up three points here. The bet I like most is the the home team to win and not concede. Moldova’s lack of attacking threat is evident with just two goals in 11 away games.
