Fifth placed Sporting Gijon will be keen to return to winning ways on Sunday evening when they play host to ninth placed Real Valladolid at their Estadio Municipal El Molinón following defeat last time out at Reus Deportiu.
Sporting Gijon were dealt a 1-0 loss last weekend, but they have a chance to turn things around here as their record on home turf stands at a solid looking 4-2-0 10/2 which has been built around a solid defensive unit which has kept four clean sheets already this season.
Indeed, Sporting Gijon’s results at home in the Segunda division are very impressive as they’ve put together a 17-match unbeaten streak, and have suffered just one defeat from their last 27 matches at this level on home soil.
Real Valladolid sit in ninth spot in the Spanish Segunda Division but are only three points adrift of this evening’s hosts, Sporting Gijon, heading into this evening’s encounter, but their form away from home has been unconvincing so far this season.
Much of Real Valladolid’s success so far this season has been achieved at their Estadio Municipal José Zorrilla ground where they’ve won four of their seven matches played, whereas away from home, they possess a below-par record of 1-3-2 10/13 so far this term.
Dig a bit deeper, and you’ll find that Real Valladolid have managed just one away win from their last eight on the road, and that was at bottom club, Sevilla B back in August. Since then, the visitors have gone five matches without a win although they’ve taken points at Cultural Leonesa, Almeria and Reus Deportiu.
However, I just cannot see Sporting Gijon losing at home here but I’ll go with the draw no bet option due to Valladolid’s serious goal threat from striker Mata (11 goals).
