Western Conference hosts, Sporting Kansas City, currently sit joint top of the division with FC Dallas as they prepare for the visit of Eastern Conference strugglers, Philadelphia Union when the teams clash at Children’s Mercy Park on Thursday evening.
Sporting Kansas have proved to be a hard nut to crack in the MLS this season, particularly at home where they still remain unbeaten on home turf and hold a solid looking record of 6-3-0 18/4, where they also boast the best defensive record at home in the Western Conference.
Kansas are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions, while also being unbeaten in their last five in their own back-yard. Despite expecting to be without three of their key players namely, Dwyer, Zusi and Besler, the hosts still look in good shape to do well here this evening.
Onto Philadelphia Union, and they’ll make their way over to Kansas in reasonably confident mood of picking up something on the road following recent back-to-back wins over DC United and New England Revolution which ended a three-game losing streak.
However, two wins on the trot does not a season make, especially when you consider that both of these recent victories were both gained at Philadelphia’s Talen Energy Stadium where they’ve lost just three games all season to date.
It’s a different story on the road though for Union who have picked up just the one win so far on their travels amidst a disappointing overall record of 1-2-4 7/7, with their one success being a 4-0 win at bottom of the Eastern Conference side, DC United.
I’m therefore confident that even with a changed line-up tonight, Sporting Kansas will walk away with the points in this one.
