Sutton United will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Maidenhead United last weekend when they once again hold home advantage against Gateshead who are still looking for their first away win of the new campaign.
Sutton lost 2-0 in their last match and dropped down to fourth place in the non-league top flight, but all three points here this afternoon would quickly erase last week’s defeat, and in turn could lift them up into top spot if other results go their way.
The hosts have actually performed better on their travels than at their Borough Sports Ground as they’ve collected three wins from their first four road trips with wins at Tranmere Rovers, Chester and Bromley, but they’ll still be confident they can get a result against a poor travelling Gateshead here.
Onto Gateshead then, and the north-east outfit sit in a mid-table position despite remaining unbeaten so far in this new season at their Gateshead International Stadium, winning three of their four matches on home turf to date.
Overall, Gateshead have won just four of their last 16 matches in the National League, with three of these victories being achieved at home, and even though they’ve racked up wins against Guiseley, Torquay United and Macclesfield Town (all bottom half teams), it’s been their results away from home that have held them back to date.
An early away record of 0-1-3 2/6 underlines the problems they’ve had on their travels so far this season which includes defeats at Woking, Wrexham and Dagenham & Redbridge (all top half teams) – hmmm…
