Sweden Preview – Can Sweden forget recent slump?
Having lost six of their last eight matches overall in all competitions, Sweden will be keen to get their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start when they play host to Georgia on Thursday night in a tricky Group B.
Sweden are also joined by Greece, Kosovo and Spain with the latter expected to take top spot and Sweden battling it out with Greece and perhaps Georgia for the runners-up spot in the group, but Sweden have been steady in World Cup qualifiers of late.
The hosts have lost just three of their last 12 qualifying matches, all of which have been away from home, while results at home have also been fairly consistent with Sweden losing just twice in their last 14 matches, winning 10 of these.
Georgia Preview – Can Georgia hold their own in Sweden?
The visitors will head into this Group B opener against Sweden on the back of a five-match winless streak in all competitions having drawn with Armenia, North Macedonia and Estonia, while also losing against North Macedonia and Armenia, both of which were at home.
Georgia have managed to win just three of their last 15 matches in all competitions while results in World Cup qualifiers have been even worse; the visitors are without a win in qualifiers from their last 17 matches at this level.
Georgia have also failed to win any of their last 16 matches on their travels, losing 12 of these so they may have their work cut out against Sweden.
