Preview: One of only three all-Premier League ties taking place in the FA Cup this weekends sees Brighton, unbeaten across their last seven away outings, looking to make life uncomfortable for a Tottenham side that has won all four meetings in North London between the teams since 2017.

Tottenham – Conte boosted by fresh faces?

Although finishing in the top four in the Premier League has to be the primary aim in what remains of this season, the FA Cup does represent one last opportunity for Tottenham to end it with a trophy. Antonio Conte’s men were very nearly upstaged in the third round, though, needing three goals inside the closing sixteen minutes to come from behind and see off Morecambe of League One at this same venue.

A visit from a Brighton side only six points worse off in the Premier League means Spurs are unlikely to be let off the hook so easily should for another below par display. We have good reason to expect a stronger showing, though. Son Heung-Min returns from injury while Rodrigo Bentancur arrives from Juventus. Both will bolster a team which has lost only three times, all to Chelsea, in twelve matches (W7 D2).

Key Stat: In only one of the past five seasons would Tottenham fail to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup. They have only been beaten once in their last nine home matches in all competitions (W7 D1).

Brighton – Seagulls to stretch unbeaten away run?

There may not be a more consistent team coming into this weekend’s FA Cup fourth round ties than Brighton. The Seagulls were held to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League by Leicester City in their most recent assignment, with that marking a fourth consecutive 1-1 scoreline for Graham Potter’s side. In fact, that is now fourteen draws in their last nineteen matches in all competitions (W2 L3). Stalemate specialists.

It makes odds of 5/6 on The Seagulls coming away from North London with at least a draw after 90 minutes look very appealing all things considered. Whatever the outcome, it seems speculative to suggest the visitors will be anything but competitive. Brighton are unbeaten in seven and were last seen losing away from home at Aston Villa in mid-d November, going unbeaten on their travels in six thereafter (W1 D5).

Key Stat: Brighton have made the fifth round of the FA Cup in three of the past four seasons. Don’t be expecting goals, though: Under 2.5 Goals returned a winning bet in 10 of the Seagulls’ last 11 matches in league and cup.

Tottenham Vs Brighton Betting Advice

These teams are meeting for the very first time this season after their league fixture at The Amex Stadium had to be postponed in December. They will now have to play each other three times before the end of May, the first in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round matches. Brighton did win their most recent meeting, 1-0 win at home in January 2021, but lost on each of their last six visits to North London going back to 2005.

Tottenham Vs Brighton – Key Facts:

  • Since 2017, which is when Brighton begun their debut campaign in the Premier League, the Seagulls have lost all four away visits to Tottenham.
  • However, only one of those contests ended with Tottenham not winning by a solitary goal (2-1 in December 2019 and November 2020, 1-0 in March 2019).
  • Another 2-1 scoreline might be stretching it, though. That is because only one of Brighton’s last 11 matches has featured three or more goals.

Although their record as hosts in this fixture cannot be scrutinised. Since 2017, when Brighton made their Premier League debuts, Spurs are yet to score more than twice at home to the Seagulls in four league meetings in North London. In addition, Brighton haven’t shipped more than one goal in 10 of the last 11 games. All but one of these going Under 2.5 Goals. So a tight contest beckons, which is how Brighton like it.
