Turkey have made their typical inconsistent start to a competition as they’ve won once but lost twice to date as they sit in second place with three points to their name ahead of this important clash with bottom nation Sweden.
Turkey recorded what could be a vital 3-2 win away at tonight’s opponents Sweden, but defeats to Russia home and away has resulted in a tense run-in in this group phase. The hosts have produced mixed results in recent times as they’ve won four, lost three and drawn once in their last eight matches in all competitions.
Sweden have played just twice so far in their UEFA Nations League campaign which have resulted in a 3-2 loss at home to Turkey but gained a solid point in a 0-0 draw away at Russia, so perhaps a trip to Turkey won’t be too daunting for the normally well-organised Swedish outfit.
The Swedes are without a win from their last five matches in all competitions, a run that includes defeats to England (in the World Cup), Austria and Turkey, but have drawn with Russia and Slovakia since.
With just two wins from their last 10 away matches, Sweden are considered the underdogs in this encounter, but they must get a result of some sort on Saturday evening to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive, and with Turkey’s inconsistent streak, the visitors stand a decent chance of grabbing at least a point here.
