Preview: With a perfect record of three wins, Turkey are well on their way to confirming their return to League B in the UEFA Nations League. Next up for the indomitable Crescent Stars are the same opponents they out six goals past on Matchday 2, a Lithuania side out to claim their first points in this year’s competition.

Turkey – League C simply too far easy?

After three games in Group C1, Turkey, being the highest ranked country in League C, unsurprisingly occupy top spot with three wins out of three. They are yet allow so much as a shot on target, let alone concede an actual goal. Hitting the Faroe Islands and Lithuania for four and six, respectively, before taking things a little easier last time out, rounding off a dominant first half to the campaign with a 2-0 win in Luxembourg.

Promotion back to the second tier seems inevitable then. It’s now all about how many goals they can accumulate in doing so. That scoreline at Stade de Luxembourg marked a first game in eight to see under 2.5 goals, but was their 16th in a row to feature at least two. Another big win seems likely therefore, as the Crescent Stars seek to improve upon two wins in seven home internationals (D2 L3).

Key Stat: All six of Turkey’s victories prior to the recent 2-0 win in Luxembourg featured three or more goals. Moreover, all three wins so far in this group have been ‘to nil’.

Lithuania – Demotion to League D on the cards?

League C Group 1 has not been kind on Lithuania. Not only do they prop up the standings after losing all three matches so far, they are the only nation in the third tier yet to register a point. Home defeats to Luxembourg (0-2) and Turkey (0-6) was followed by a more spirited performance in the Faroe Islands. Albeit the outcome was all too familiar, falling to a 2-1 defeat despite opening the scoring in the sixth minute.

That was a fourth loss on the bounce for Valdas Ivanauskas’ side, who must somehow defy a deficit of 95 places in the FIFA rankings if they are to take anything from their final outing during this June international break. Having sustained nine losses, six ‘to nil’, in their past ten away matches though, the fear is that another scoreline similar to the one they endured in Vilnius when the sides met on 7 June, could materialise.

Key Stat: Lithuania are currently on a 21-game wait for a clean sheet, even managing to gift the worst team in international football, San Marino, a collector’s item of a goal earlier in the year.

Turkey Vs Lithuania Betting Advice

League B beckons for Turkey. The Crescent Stars have shown mercy in Group C1, racking up 12 goals – four per game on average – for the loss of none in defeats of Faroe Islands, Lithuania and Luxembourg. Their biggest win, meanwhile, came in the reverse of this fixture as they rank out 6-0 victors in the Lithuanian capital. Now, with a home crowd baying for more blood, another big scoreline is anticipated.

Turkey Vs Lithuania – Key Facts:

  • 95 places separate the teams in accordance with the latest FIFA rankings. This was certainly in evidence on 7 June, when Turkey scored six unanswered goals in Vilnius during what was their first ever encounter with Lithuania.
  • Turkey have won all three group games without conceding. Meanwhile, Lithuanian lost all three of theirs so far, scoring just the once – the opener in a 2-1 loss in the Faroe Islands.
  • There were Over 3.5 Goals in five of the last seven internationals involving Turkey, who are averaging four goals scored per game in this season of the UEFA Nations League.

Extracting value from a home win isn’t easy. All the popular markets essentially no-go zones due to Turkey being such strong favourites. A fourth successive win to nil isn’t the worst price, at 4/7. Lithuania would only score once in three group matches so far. Instead, however, I am prepared to chance Over 3.5 Goals – a bet that returned a winning selection in five of the past seven Turkish internationals – at better odds.
