Ural Preview – Can Ural bounce back?
Ural were handed a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Krasnodar on the opening day of the Russian Premier League last week but the hosts have another chance to redeem themselves on Sunday afternoon when they play host to new-boys, Nizhny Novgorod.
Last season, Ural finished in the bottom half of the domestic top flight in 12th place but held a comfortable 12-point cushion above the relegation zone, so they’ll be confident that they can at least avoid a relegation battle this term.

Nizhny Novgorod registered a 1-0 home win against Sochi in last weekend’s season-opener in the Russian Premier League in what was their first ever match in the domestic top flight in their history and the visitors will be hoping they can make it two wins on the trot at Ural on Sunday.
Nizhny Novgorod finished in 3rd place at the end of last season’s FNL campaign but because 2nd placed Orenburg’s stadium had failed to meet the required standards of the Premier League, Nizhny Novgorod were promoted to the top flight in their place.
Form away from home will be crucial to Novgorod’s top flight survival this season and if pre-season results are anything to go by (they lost to Rubin Kazan home and away and CSKA Moscow), they may have to rely upon results at home to keep them safe.
