Viborg – Home form points to strong showing?
Currently, only FC Midtjylland have a longer ongoing unbeaten run (27 games vs Randers) against a particular opponent than FC Copenhagen do against Viborg, the latter seeking their first head-to-head victory over the 14-time Danish champions since 2004 (D5 L16). Good teams rarely stay down for long, and the reigning Superliga champions showcased all of this last time out in a 3-1 victory away at Aalborg. Bouncing back immediately from their opening round loss, a shock 1-0 scoreline at home to newly-promoted AC Horsens. It means they have now lost just once across the last seven top-flight matches (W4 D2 L1), winning three of the last four.
They were made to sweat a little for those three points though. A seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead became a one-goal game with 11 minutes remaining, with FCK not adding the insurance policy of a third goal until the fifth minute of stoppage-time. Although FCK’s record in this fixture, home and away, is exceptionally good, I do think Viborg are capable of putting up a fair amount of resistance to the champions. Sunday’s hosts have only tasted defeat twice in 14 Superliga fixtures (W6 D6 L2), going unbeaten in seven at home, and while most of those games were in last season’s Relegation Group, that ability to consistently avoid losing only breeds confidence.
