The new Austrian Bundesliga season carries on this weekend and our next featured match is a clash between newcomers, Wattens, and Austria Vienna as the betting tips continue at the Gernot Langes Stadion.

Wattens Prediction – Can Wattens get off to a good start in the top flight?

After winning the 2. Liga league title at the end of last season, Wattens secured promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga for the first time in their history.

The visitors pipped runners-up, Ried, by 2 points to claim top place and a place in the top flight this season but they’ll face a tough task in staying up this term.

The hosts’ tiny ground has a capacity of a touch over 5,000 and they’ll be up against a strong Austria Vienna outfit in this opening match of the season.

However, Wattens’ pre-season was a successful one as the hosts lost just 1 of their 5 warm-up matches, that being a 3-0 loss to Hungarian side, Honved.

Recent wins against Bayern Munich B, St Pauli and Treibach should give Wattens reason to be confident in their first home match of the season.

Last season’s success was largely built upon a solid home record which saw Wattens win their last 6 home matches on the trot.

As with any other top flight division though, the step up in quality from the second tier is a significant step and Wattens will do well to get a point here I fancy.

Austria Vienna Prediction – Can Austria Vienna grab the points here?

It’s also been a largely successful pre-season for visitors, Austria Vienna, too as they’ve won 3 of their 4 warm-up matches prior to the start of this new Bundesliga season.

Wins against Banik Ostrava, QPR and Gaflenz have overshadowed their one defeat in the warm-ups which was a 3-2 loss to Slavia Prague.

A 4th place finish in the Championship Round last season saw Austria Vienna qualify for the Europa League as well.

The visitors will enter the competition at the 3rd qualifying round stage where they’ll play either Shamrock Rovers or Apollon.

For now though, Austria Vienna will turn their attentions to the bread and butter of the Bundesliga and look to go a step better this term.

Austria Vienna will be looking to improve upon their shaky looking away form which saw them win just 2 of their last 8 matches on their travels.

They do have a great chance though of getting off the mark with all three points here in this clash as they look to teach the new-boys, Wattens, a Bundesliga lesson.

Betting Tips Verdict

It’s likely to be a tough baptism of fire for Wattens here as Austria Vienna should be too strong from the outset.
