West Bromwich Albion Preview – Baggies to make home advantage count?

West Bromwich Albion have made a steady start to their 2022-23 Championship season, drawing both games so far. They face a tough test this weekend when they travel to Blackburn Rovers, who are the only side in the Championship with a 100% record.

West Brom started with a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium, with John Swift equalising shortly after the break. Albion then drew 1-1 with Watford last time out. The Hornets opened the scoring thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s wonder strike, but Karlan Grant levelled on the stroke of half time. West Brom were the better team but failed to get in front.

Our betting prediction:
West Brom to score in both halves
5/2

After back-to-back draws in the league, West Brom will be looking for a win in the cup on Thursday. Steve Bruce’s boys are the favourites at 13/10.

Sheffield United Preview – Blades to fall short in the West Midlands?

Sheffield United reached the play-offs last season, narrowly missing out in the semi-finals to eventual winners Nottingham Forest. The Blades will be eyeing up a top-six place this term, and they have started by taking three points from a possible six.

On matchday one, Paul Heckingbottom’s troops were beaten 1-0 at Watford. However, they bounced back with an impressive 2-0 home win over Millwall in game two, with Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge getting the goals.

Sheffield United are the second favourites here, but can they leave The Hawthorns with a place in the next round? The visitors are priced at 11/5 to win in normal time.

West Bromwich Albion vs Sheffield United Betting Advice

When these two sides last met at The Hawthorns, West Brom ran out big 4-0 winners in a league game back in August last year. The Baggies were far too good for the Blades in that one, with an own goal and efforts from Dara O’Shea, Alex Mowatt and Callum Robinson doing the business.

Sheffield United got revenge in the reverse fixture at Bramall Lane in February. Jake Livermore was sent off for Albion, and veteran striker Billy Sharp bagged a brace in a 2-0 United victory.

Key Facts – West Bromwich Albion vs Sheffield United Betting Tip

  • West Brom have drawn two on the bounce so far this term
  • Sheffield United beat Millwall last time out
  • The Baggies thumped the Blades 4-0 when the pair last met at The Hawthorns

The pair will be concentrating on the league this season, though both clubs will want to win this cup tie. It is likely to be close, but we fancy West Brom to shade it on their own patch. Back Albion to prevail at 13/10.

We expect Sheffield United to play their part in an entertaining cup encounter, so check out the solid odds of 15/4 for the home win and both teams to score.
