Football Betting

2013/14 League Two betting gets underway well before the new Premier League season, so it is a great chance to get a jump on your football betting. The new season action starts on Saturday, August 3rd, when the clubs will start their campaigns. Who will be in the promotion picture next season and who will be the ones struggling to stay alive in the division? Here we take a look at some League One betting tips for some of the popular markets ahead of the new season.

Ever since the markets opened on the new season of League Two betting, Portsmouth have pretty much been heading things up in terms of favouritism to win the division. So there could be bright times around the corner for them after having such a miserable season last term. They were rock bottom of the pile in League One last term, not only that, they were a massive sixteen points away from even thinking about staying up. So will they have what it takes to bounce back from such a hugely disappointing season? How much they did suffer last term may make punters a little hesitant about their chances of being able to power their way to the League Two title this term.

So it may be offering some better value on either Chesterfield or Fleetwood. Chesterfield only finished 8th in last year’s League Two campaign, and despite coming into a good bit of form towards the end of the season, they missed out on the play offs by a couple of points. But they have been backed quite strongly to be one of the front runners for this year’s campaign. Fleetwood are pretty much in the same boat, only managing a mid table finish last term. But they are a club with quite a bit of potential in their squad, and if they could have build upon the strong first half of the season which they had they would have been firm promotion candidates. They were red hot over the first half of the season and then won only two of their last fifteen to round out the season with.

So Northampton could be the ones who are looking the best value of all. They weren’t to the League Two Play Off Final and surely they would be able to build upon that experience to have a good run at the title this time around. Looking at them, they may well just have the credentials to get the job done here. Really, their whole promotion charge was undone in the first half hour of the play off final where they just crumbled against Bradford. Scunthorpe, who were relegated from League One lead the way in the title winning department out of the teams who dropped down a level last term.

Portsmouth 9/2, Chesterfield 13/2, Fleetwood 8/1, Bristol Rovers 14/1, Scunthorpe 16/1, Northampton 16/1, Oxford 16/1, Cheltenham 20/1

2013/14 League Two Promotion Odds at William Hill

All of the teams above are obviously trading strongly in this market. There are four promotion spots up for grabs, three automatic and one through the play offs. That is a good bit of scope and the three favourites, Portsmouth, Chesterfield and Fleetwood could all be worth a shot in backing just to get promotion. This is the market though where there will be other options coming into things for real value. This is where the likes of Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham and Oxford could all make a play and they are worth eyeing up to get up to the next tier of English football at the end of the forthcoming season. A valuable market not to be ignored for your League Two betting.

Portsmouth 5/6, Chesterfield 13/8, Fleetwood 13/8, Bristol Rovers 3/1, Scunthorpe 7/2, Rochdale 5/1, Oxford 10/3, Cheltenham 5/2

But what about things at the other end of the table? Who are the ones most likely to drop out of the football league and down into the Conference? There are two dreaded positions which teams can end up in at the close of the League Two season.  Last season it was Barnet and Aldershot who tumbled. The prime candidates are going to be the League Two sides who struggled badly last season. Who was that? Predominately Dagenham and Redbridge. They only survived by the skin of their teeth on goal difference at the end of the day. The likes of Torquay and Wimbledon weren’t too far ahead either in what was a really tense relegation battle. Newly promoted Mansfield, thanks to some prolific goal scoring feats last year in the Conference Premier have avoided serious backing to take the drop back down next season, but Newport County, who came through the play offs to gain promotion, are in the mix a little big more in League Two relegation betting.

Dagenham and Redbridge 9/2, Accrington 7/2, Morecambe 7/2, AFC Wimbledon 5/1, Newport County 6/1, Exeter 6/1, Torquay 7/1, York 8/1, Bury 9/1
