It was a perfect three wins from three for Algeria in the group stage of this Afcon campaign. They also claimed a clean sheet in each of those victories as well, averaging two per game themselves. They didn’t miss a beat as they hit the round of sixteen either as they crushed Guinea 3-0 there. So the Desert Foxes had it all fairly easy up until that point. But then their first real challenge came as they faced the Ivory Coast in the quarters. Algeria couldn’t hold on to a lead in a 1-1 tie as they were pegged back in the second half. Nigeria had to take on holders Cameroon in the round of sixteen. It was a great game actually with the Super Eagles fighting back to take it 3-2. In the quarter-finals, they looked to have an easier game on their hands as they were up against South Africa. However, the Super Eagles laboured a fair bit in that 2-1 victory which they took over them. Back in the group stage, they had to settle for second best in their battle with minnows Manager for top spot.

Each of their last five wins have all been by a one-goal margin. They will perhaps be a little worried that none of their last three games have yielded a clean sheet.
