Argentina News and Form

It was never really a campaign in which Argentina ever got themselves going. A 2-0 defeat rocked them right at the start, and their following 1-1 draw against Paraguay didn’t help either. They did get a win over Qatar own their final group stage game, but that was only a second place finish that they managed. So while they got through, the issue was that it meant that they would likely meet Brazil in the semifinals instead of the final itself. That’s exactly what happened.

Argentina did take 2-0 win over Venezuela in the quarterfinals. So then it was their big showdown against their rivals Brazil. Argentina were incensed throughout because of what they saw as bad decisions go against the them and they lost 2-0. They have so much attacking talent do Argentina, but it hasn’t delivered. Lionel Messi has one goal, an equalising spot kick against Paraguay. Argentina are W4 D1 L3 in 2019 and three of their four wins have been with a clean sheet. All three of the losses in that sequence of games were by a two-goal margin. They haven’t won the Copa America since 1993 and this is another bitter blow. They host next year’s edition.

Chile News and Form

The Chileans were aiming for three straight Copa America titles. That was not to be. Their form prior to the tournament was not great at all, so in some ways, it is a surprise that they got as close as they did to coming up with a title defence. Chile landed a second place finish in the group stage, falling to Uruguay. They did take wins in their easier fixtures against Japan and Ecuador through. That group stage campaign left them with a game against Colombia in the quarterfinals.

Chile were outplayed by Uruguay but held out for a 0-0 draw and won the penalty shoot out. That moved them ahead to a semi-final showdown against Peru, a game which the Chileans were favourites to win. However, they collapsed to a 3-0 defeat despite having the lion’s share of the game. So that leaves Chile with just a W3 D2 L3 record for the 2019 calendar year. They have failed to score in their last three games now. Can they frustrate Argentina as they have done in their per cent Copa America meetings

Argentina v Chile Predictions

Argentina to win: Argentina can at least sign off for the summer by getting some revenge over Chile. Neither have looked particularly good at the tournament and it will most likely be a low scoring game. The Albiceleste look the more likely to nick it though.
