Bolivia still have a chance at earning one of the best third-place spots from the group stage at the Copa America. That is despite the fact that they have lost their opening two games. So three points would put them in contention for third place finish, whether it would be enough to get to the knockouts would remain to be seen. In their opening game, they were 0-0 against tournament hosts Brazil, but lost 3-0 in the end. They also conceded three goals in their second match, a 3-1 loss against Peru. They have barely raised a threat in this tournament and are likely to be heading out.

It is a five-match losing streak that Bolivia are currently on and they are D3 L6 in their last nine. The only win that they have taken in their last eleven games was a 3-0 international friendly success over Myanmar back in October last year. They are barely creating anything as an attacking force with them having scored just one goal in their last five games. They have scored in just two of their last eight. So it’s unlikely that they are going to turn on a great show here and collect three points and boost a -5 goal difference to help them in the race for a best third-place finish.

Venezuela have collected back to back draws in the group. They were frustrated in a 0-0 draw against Peru in their opening game and then rode their luck against Brazil to get the same result. Against the Brazilians, Venezuela saw two goals against them wiped out through VAR and another from the referee. They are taking on the weakest opposition in the group and a win will give them a top two finish if there is a loser from the Brazil v Peru game. So Venezuela have a lot to play for.

So that point against Brazil, surviving what they did, was a good point for Venezuela. It is only the one loss that they have suffered across their last ten games, so they aren’t in bad form particularly. The one loss in that sequence was against Mexico when they met for an international friendly in June. In that same sequence of ten games, there have been victories for Venezuela over the USA and Argentina. So they have it in them. Before the start of the 2019 Copa America, Venezuela were on a six-match scoring streak of form. Now it’s back to back games without one. A win and they will likely be going to the next round, even if it’s as the best third-placed team.
