Burton Albion News and Form – Third win on the spin for the Brewers?

Nigel Clough’s men looked to have turned a corner of late, winning three of the last four in league and cup. However, two of those victories have come in the Emirates FA Cup, as the Brewers have won just once in League One since October.

Last Tuesday evening, Burton picked up a huge three points at the Stadium of Light. An Aiden McGeady goal put Sunderland one up, but Ryan Edwards went straight down the other end to fire Burton level. In the 68th minute, Liam Boyce netted to give Albion a vital 2-1 victory at the home of the Black Cats.

 

 

Burton have had their problems at the Pirelli Stadium this season, failing to win at home in the league since beating Wimbledon 1-0 back on October 22nd. Clough’s troops have the second worst home record in the division, with only Southend picking up fewer home points. Nevertheless, they should have no problems in this one.

Southend United have endured a miserable season so far, losing a staggering 15 of their 18 League One games. The Shrimpers are only off the bottom due to Bolton Wanderers’ points deduction. However, Bolton are now just four points behind.

Since Sol Campbell’s arrival at Roots Hall, Southend have lost each of their five league games. Last time out, United were beaten 4-0 at home by high-flying Oxford United. However, the Essex club did manage to beat Wimbledon in the Football League Trophy recently.

Four of Southend’s five League One points have come on the road this term, though only three teams have a poorer away record in the third tier. Can they cause a big upset at the Pirelli in midweek?

Burton Albion win: Since shocking MK Dons with a 1-0 win at Stadium MK back in September, Southend have taken just one point from the last 27 on offer. Unless they have an enormous upswing in fortunes, the Shrimpers are heading for EFL League Two.
