Celta Vigo v Real Madrid Betting Preview – La Liga 7th January 7.45pm

Real Madrid gets back into league action and they have to pick up the pieces now after losing heavily at home to Barcelona just before the winter break. That was a huge blow to their title defence and they now find themselves trailing leaders Barcelona by fourteen points. Celta Vigo sits in mid-table in the Spanish top flight but they will take some hope from the poor away form that Real Madrid have been carrying.

Celta Vigo v Real Madrid Betting Tips

There has been a W3 D2 L3 record on home soil from Celta Vigo this season in La Liga and they have won two of their last three there. They had to battle through a really tough sequence of matches in December before the winter break, in which they played out a 2-2 draw at Barcelona and then lost by a one-goal margin against both Valencia and Villarreal. They have picked up just the one clean sheet in their last eleven top-flight games, so they are going to be vulnerable in this one. However, with Real Madrid out of form on the road though, both teams to score at Betfair looks a decent poke for the game. Celta Vigo have scored an average of 1.4 goals per game home game although they have only managed two clean sheets in their eight home fixtures. 82% of the goals that Celta Vigo have scored at home have come in the first half of matches.

There were four meetings between these two last season as they were paired up in the Copa del Rey too and they were all entertaining games in which Real Madrid posted a W2 D1 L1 record from. Real Madrid have won their last three league trips to Celta Vigo so they have that going for them. Each of the last eight meetings between the two clubs have gone over 2.5 goals so there’s a good trend and it could be worth pushing it further out over 3.5 goals at Betfair for a quote of 5/6. Just to add a little weight to that, of all La Liga sides currently outside of the top four, Celta Vigo are the second highest scorers so will pose a threat, especially as Real Madrid haven’t been great on their travels in La Liga.

Real Madrid have produced a W4 D2 L1 record this season away from home in the top flight. They won each of their first four away games, but have slumped since, winning just one of their following three and scoring just the one goal in that sequence. They suffered a big hit in a 3-0 home loss against Barcelona just before Christmas and that was their third league loss of the campaign already in a W9 D4 L3 record. That’s well below their standards of last season and they are nine points worse off than they were at this stage last season. Real Madrid have returned eleven goals in their seven away fixtures and 71% of their away games have gone over 2.5 goals. 73% of their away goals have come in the first half of matches. Cristiano Ronaldo is the 12/5 first goalscorer favourite, while Marco Asensio is their top scorer on the road and is at 20/21 in the anytime goalscorer market.

Celta Vigo v Real Madrid Predictions

Real Madrid still looks good value to go and get a win, even though their away form isn’t up to much really. This new year could be a fresh start for them and they are value to go and win this to nil. It probably won’t be a victory by more than a one-goal margin.
