There is always something special about the Championship football betting on the final day of the season.

The tension and drama at venues up and down the country make for one of the best football betting days on the calendar.

Automatic promotion in Championship football betting has been settled already, but the playoff race is still open.

There are no relegation issues to be settled on the final day of the Championship season either.

Automatic Promotion

Fulham booked automatic promotion to the Premier League with games to spare and a 7-0 victory over Luton on the weekend saw them bank the title of champions too.

Bournemouth, thanks to a late winner at home against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, join them in the top flight next season.

Championship Football Betting – Playoffs

Had Forest held on for a draw at Bournemouth in midweek, that would have left the automatic promotion to be settled on the final day of the season between themselves and Bournemouth.

It was not to be, so Forest go to the playoffs along with Huddersfield.

Those two clubs are locked together on points heading into Saturday’s action.

Nottingham Forest will have to pick themselves up for a trip to Hull, but they are the 7/10 odds-on favourites for that* (odds recorded at 22:20 GMT on May 3rd, 2022 at Betfair).

Forest have shown tremendous form down the final stretch of the Championship season, making that loss at Bournemouth even tougher to swallow.

Huddersfield, who have been in red hot form lately, dropping just two points in their last six matches, have a home match.

They play host to Bristol City as they look to leap ahead of Forest.

For that to happen Huddersfield have to better whatever result Nottingham Forest come up with because they trail them badly in the goal difference.

The Terriers are 10/11 odds on favourites to beat Bristol City* (odds recorded at 22:20 GMT on May 3rd, 2022 at Betfair).

Regardless of what happens, neither Forest nor Huddersfield can finish lower than fourth.

The Rest of the Championship Playoff picture

Sheffield United and Luton are the two teams holding down the other playoff spots in the division heading into the final weekend.

They are on 72-points each and there are scenarios where one or even both could miss out.

Sheffield United are at home to Fulham which is a tough game to read. Having already won the league, Fulham may not be as competitive as they can be. The Cottagers are only W2 D1 L3 in their last six. But they did thrash 6th place Luton 7-0 last weekend. The Blades will need a big home performance.

Luton, fresh off their hiding by Fulham, get back to the comfort of Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

They won’t be unhappy with their final fixture, a game against Reading who will finish fourth from the bottom regardless.

Luton are 4/7 odds-on to win that and guarantee themselves a playoff spot* (odds recorded at 22:20 GMT on May 3rd, 2022 at Betfair).

The Chasing Duo in the Championship Playoffs

Middlesbrough and Millwall are the teams with work to do and need fortune on their side to muscle into the playoffs on the weekend.

Both teams have to win to have any chance of that happening. Middlesbrough are away from home against Preston.

Given what’s at stake three points for Boro is not unreasonable for them against a team in mid-table.

Boro are 7/10 to produce the win in Championship betting odds* (odds recorded at 22:20 GMT on May 3rd, 2022 at Betfair).

Millwall potentially have a tougher assignment.

They visit Bournemouth as heavy underdogs to get the win that they need.

But given that Bournemouth just secured automatic promotion on Tuesday, all of the stress is off the Cherries who may be in a party mood.

Regardless, the Lions are a quote of 7/2 in Championship football betting odds* (odds recorded at 22:20 GMT on May 3rd, 2022 at Betfair).

Championship Betting Predictions

Which teams squeeze through to the final two playoff spots that remain open? It’s hard to see any changes happening to the current standings.

That’s because Sheffield United and Luton both look capable of winning their remaining respective fixtures on Saturday.

Sheffield United are 21/20 favourites at home against Fulham* (odds recorded at 22:20 GMT on May 3rd, 2022 at Betfair).

The Cottagers, having been crowned champions already, could work in Sheffield United’s favour there.

Luton, despite getting smashed by Fulham last time out, have the home form to suggest that they will beat Reading, who will just be relieved to have no relegation worries handing over them on Saturday.

So try as they might, Middlesbrough and Millwall are not likely to get the openings that either would need to get in the frame.
