Chelsea News and Form

Sandwiched between two Europa League games against Malmo, Chelsea bowed out of the FA Cup at home against Manchester United last Monday. It was a tame exit from the Blues as well. Chelsea are in a busy period of action of four games in ten days. They have looked a long way short of confidence lately, and the fans have started to turn against boss Maurizio Sarri. Overall the Blues are W6 L5 in their last eleven games across all competitions.

The bulk of their collapses and poor performances have been when they are not playing at Stamford Bridge. So that could spell trouble for them here. To be fair to them they did get through a tough semi-final tie against Spurs, albeit on a penalty shootout, but they held their nerve to come back after having lost the first leg. There are problems with them having looked lost in defence and their attacking plan isn’t working out well enough.

They play a game which sees them pass the ball around a lot without actually going anywhere. There is little cut and thrust from them unless Eden Hazard gets on the ball. After their big 6-0 league defeat at the hands of City, what can they do different to avoid the same fate? That is the big challenge awaiting Sarri and his troops. What can they do to press City effectively? Chelsea were the first team in domestic action this season to beat the Citizens, taking a league victory over them back in December.

Manchester City News and Form

In stark contrast to the troubles that the Blues are having, City are on fire at the moment. They have won their last five games in all competitions. The most recent of which was in midweek when they fought back from being a goal down away from home to beat Schalke. With ten men they mounted that comeback as well which made it all the more impressive. In four of their last five wins, Manchester City has scored at least three goals. In the other, they scored two.

Manchester City are W13 L1 in their last fourteen games across all competitions. They are running so strongly at the moment. Recently when they put that 6-0 win up over Chelsea in the Premier League, the Citizens were out of sight in the first twenty minutes of action. They simply cruised to record the three points them. That is the strength, they can just turn on powerful burst and blow teams away.

It is questionable as to whether or not Chelsea have the form to contain them at the moment. In last season’s EFL Cup Final, Manchester City beat Arsenal 3-0. In their four matches in this season’s competition, they have conceded just the one goal, scoring thirteen. They haven’t even been at full strength in those games either. It all looks like a successfully afternoon for City is coming. They have form, confidence and really this game is theirs to lose.

Chelsea v Manchester City Predictions

Man City to win: We can see this being another routine win for City here. They can be patient and pick Chelsea off if the Blues show a bit of early pressure. Or whenever City want to get on the front foot they know that there are big vulnerabilities in the Chelsea back line. Manchester City to win to nil.
