Even though they were largely dominated by Argentina in their opening group stage fixture, Colombia produced a 2-0 win over the Albiceleste. After sticking in there, Colombia got both of their goals in the final twenty minutes of the fixture. That was some boost for them and it was Roger Martinez who opened the scoring for them before Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata who put the game out of reach with less than five minutes to go. Zapata has scored in his last two games for his country now and could be a huge star for them at this tournament.
So now their big opening victory will put some pressure on them in terms of everyone expecting them to beat Qatar easily. Colombia have taken a clean sheet in each of their last four wins now. Across their last nine games, they are W7 D1 L1. So they are in great form currently and they have scored at least two goals in each of their last three games. They have successfully navigated the toughest game of the group and now they should just be looking forward with a tremendous amount of positivity.

The AFC Asian Cup champions Qatar received an invite to the Copa America for the first time and they grabbed a point in their opener. They were up against the out of form Paraguay in the fixture and it ended in a 2-2 draw. Qatar had conceded a penalty in the fourth minute of play and they were 2-0 down in the second half. But they showed a great deal of self-belief and character as they clawed their way back to get a point. Qatar have lost just one of their last nine games now after having won all seven of their fixtures at the AFC Asian Cup 2019. They conceded just one goal in total at the Asian Cup.
The interesting thing is that Qatar dominated possession against Paraguay and it showed how confident that they are. This has been a tough group draw for them at the tournament though in having to take on Colombia and the wounded Argentina (who lost to Colombia in their opener). This is where it gets real for them now in having to take on a much stronger opponent. They are not too likely to cause a massive upset and collect the win, but it will be interesting to see how they go against higher quality opposition.
