France News and Form – Les Bleus to move ahead in Group H?

Didier Deschamps’ France have won six and lost one of their seven qualifiers so far. Since falling to a shock 2-0 defeat to Turkey in Konya on matchday three, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners have won each of their last four in Group H.

On Friday night, France were involved in a tight game with Iceland. The Icelanders would have moved level in the group with Les Bleus with a win, but an Olivier Giroud penalty gave France a crucial 1-0 win at Laugardalsvollur in Reykjavik.

With the world champions on the cusp of qualification to Euro 2020, France will be gunning for all three points on home soil this Monday. Turkey have been very impressive so far and will no doubt give the French a hard game, but Deschamps’ troops should be too good for them at the Stade de France.

France v Turkey Head to Head

Back in June, Turkey beat France 2-0 in the reverse match in Konya

Before that defeat, Les Bleus had won all of the previous five meetings between the two nations

Two of those five French victories ended in 4-0 scorelines

France have scored 13 goals in the six meetings, while the Turks have netted just four

Key-Facts – France v Turkey

  • Les Bleus have won eight of their last nine
  • The Turks have won eight of their previous nine, also
  • Both teams have shipped just three points in the group up until now

Turkey News and Form – Tough evening for the Group H leaders?

Turkey have been excellent during qualifying so far. The Turks have some very capable players, but not many would have predicted Senol Gunes’ boys to be quite as competitive in Group H.

The Crescent-Stars lead the way in the group having taken a superb 18 points from a possible 21. Due to their win over France in Konya, Turkey are ahead of the French on the head-to-head record. Their only qualifying defeat came to Iceland in Reykjavik in June.

Turkey picked up a precious 1-0 home win over Albania last time out. With time running out, Everton’s Cenk Tosun scored the all-important winner at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul.

Turkey would love to leave France with a positive result, but Gunes’ troops are the big underdogs, with the bookies pricing them at 11/1 to pick up all three points.

France v Turkey Predictions

France win: The 2018 World Cup winners will be out for revenge after their defeat in Turkey a few months back. Both teams are in devastating form at the moment, but France are incredibly hard to topple on their own patch. The hosts should be too strong for Turkey in this one, so our money is going on France to win -1 at 4/5.

Chelsea man Oliver Giroud has a good goalscoring record for his country, and the striker netted the only goal of the game in France’s crucial 1-0 win over Iceland in their last outing. Giroud is available at the tempting price of evens to score anytime in this qualifier.
