Haiti News and Form

It is a good run of form that Haiti have put together, especially in having put three wins from three on the board in the group stage of the Gold Cup. They started with a victory over Bermuda before then taking down Nicaragua. That left them in a big showdown for top spot against Costa Rica in their final game. Haiti were underdogs for that but pulled off the shock result with a 2-1 scoreline. Haiti scored exactly two goals in each of their three group stage matches.

There were underdog odds against them in their quarter-final tie as they were up against Canada. Things looked done and dusted for their campaign as Haiti fell 2-0 down in the first half hour of the game. But then came a stunning fightback from them in which they claimed a 3-2 success. Haiti have two players on two goals for the tournament, Duckens Nazon and Frantzdy Pierrot. Can they take this journey further? This is the first time that they have been past the quarterfinals since 2000. Haiti are now on a five-match winning streak and are W9 L3 in their last twelve.

  • Haiti fought back from 2-0 down against Canada in the last round
  • Mexico have won seven of their last eight games3

Mexico News and Form

Mexico also won their group with three wins from three. In those fixtures, they rattled off 13 goals and were totally untroubled. It was a 7-0 drubbing of Cuba that they started with, before seeing off their strongest group opponents Canada 3-1. In their final group stage fixture, Mexico came up with a 3-2 win over Martinique. With their group stage success, the Mexicans moved through to meet Costa Rica in the quarterfinals, probably when they would have been expecting Haiti and then potentially Costa Rica or Canada in the semifinals.

But it turned out to be Costa Rica first and now Haiti. In their quarter-final tie against Costa Rica, the game ended 1-1. So that meant a penalty shoot-out was on the board and Mexico narrowly got the job done. Mexico are now W7 D1 in their last eight games so are bang in form. They had scored at least three goals in a seven-match streak before playing out that 1-1 draw with Costa Rica. Mexico are looking for their tenth Gold Cup title, their first since the 2015 edition.

Haiti v Mexico Predictions

Mexico to win: A win for Mexico looks a plausible outcome in this fixture. They are a very good side at this level in producing the goals. They will fancy their chances even though they are taking on a confident Haiti side. Mexico to win & both teams to score.
