Alfred Schreuder’s Hoffenheim went into Tuesday’s game against Union Berlin in the capital without a win in four, losing three and drawing one. Lucien Favre’s Borussia Dortmund were involved in a six-goal thriller with Red Bull Leipzig at the Westfalenstadion in midweek. The Black and Yellows raced into a two-goal lead by half time thanks to first-half strikes by Julian Weigl and Julian Brandt. However, Leipzig were level by the 53rd minute. England international Jadon Sancho restored Dortmund’s lead, though Patrik Schick levelled things up for the visitors with 13 minutes left on the clock.

Tuesday’s draw with the Red Bulls stopped a run of four successive league and cup wins. Borussia had sealed victories over Hertha Berlin, Dusseldorf, Slavia Prague (UEFA Champions League) and Mainz.
