Manchester United News and Form – Comfortable evening for the Red Devils?
Manchester United were starting to build some momentum after back-to-back wins in the Premier League and UEFA Europa League. After battling to a 1-0 league victory over Leicester City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side then edged past Astana in Europe by the same scoreline.
However, the Red Devils were brought back down to earth with a bang in the Premier League last weekend, falling to a deserved 2-0 loss to West Ham at the London Stadium. United were toothless in London, with Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell netting in the comfortable victory for the Hammers.
Overall, United have won three, drawn two and lost two of seven matches in all competitions. In the Premier League, Solskjaer’s troops sit eighth after six games, winning two, drawing two and losing two. The Manchester club could certainly do with a routine win in the cup ahead of Monday’s crunch clash with rivals Arsenal in the league.
United have won the EFL Cup five times in their illustrious history. Back in 2017, the Red Devils squeezed past Southampton to claim their fifth League Cup triumph. Can England’s most successful club add another trophy to the cabinet this season?

The Dale have been solid in the League Cup this season, scoring seven times in two games. In round one, Rochdale thumped Bolton Wanderers 5-2 at Spotland. In the previous round, meanwhile, goals from Aaron Morley and Matt Done gave Barry-Murphy’s boys a 2-1 home victory over Carlisle United.
The Rochdale players will relish the chance at playing at Old Trafford, but it will no doubt be a tough evening for the third tier side.
