Monaco v PSG Betting Preview – Ligue 1 26th November 8.00pm

No-one has gotten the better of the PSG juggernaut in Ligue 1 this season and if they can go and take a win at Monaco in this heavyweight showdown on Saturday night, they would open up a nine point lead at the top of the table. Monaco, despite their selling in the summer, have managed to put together a decent domestic season and are PSG’s closest challengers. But they are going to need to collect all three points to realistically keep themselves in touch with the leaders in the title race.

Monaco v PSG Betting Tips

Monaco are hanging onto the coattails of league leaders PSG this season and considering all of the transfer market action that they made over the summer, it is somewhat surprising that they kept things together so well. But this is as high pressure game for them now because they are trailing the leaders by six points already and can’t afford to drop all the points in this home fixture. Monaco have gone W9 D2 L2 this season in the French top flight and they have only dropped the two points in their six home games so far this season and they have proven themselves in tough home games with wins over Marseille and Caen, two of the current top six sides this season so they have been pretty reliable throughout. They haven’t been goal shy either and have averaged 3.5 goals per home and they have shipped only the four goals at home this term and three of those have been in the second half of matches.

Over 2.5 goals at bet365 is a price of 4/11 and that’s because four of the last five meetings have ended that way. Monaco and PSG met in the French Super Cup back in July and PSG recorded a 2-1 victory in the match. But Monaco won this corresponding league fixture last season, collecting a good 3-1 victory over the Parisians. In the anytime goalscorer market for the home side, Radamel Falcao is an 11/10 option for them with Stevan Jovetic at 9/4. Monaco have scored in both halves in 83% of their home fixtures this term. They can’t boast a defensive record anywhere near as good as PSG’s this season and both teams to score in this one looks pretty likely at a price of 1/2. Monaco are on a four match winless streak of form against PSG, having lost the last three against them in all competitions now.

PSG have a commanding lead at the top of the table already holding a six point advantage over Monaco. PSG are unbeaten so far and have only dropped the four points in two drawn matches. Both of those draws did happen out on their travels against Montpellier and Marseille. PSG boast some tremendous scoring power of course and they have totalled twelve goals in their last three league games alone and netted seven against Celtic in the Champions League in midweek. This isn’t just the Neymar show as it is Edinson Cavani who is the top scorer for them with fifteen league goals and he is the 5/2 bet365 first goalscorer favourite. Neymar, who has seven league goals for his new club is a 4/5 anytime goalscorer option. PSG have averaged 2.8 goals per away game in the top flight this season and 50% of their road games have gone over 2.5 goals. They will, of course, turn up and compete hard. 71% of the goals that they have scored this season on their travels have come in the second half of matches.

Monaco v PSG Predictions

The most telling fixture that Monaco played recently saw them lose against third placed Lyon in a big test. They failed that and they may slip up at home against PSG this weekend. That would be a major blow for their season, but PSG have an upper hand over them both going forward and at the back. PSG have an immense opportunity here to go and press home a huge advantage in the French title race.
