Neil Warnock becomes first Premier League managerial casualty of season

The Premier League season didn’t survive until the 2015 calendar year without suffering a managerial casualty. Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock was fired after Boxing Day’s loss against Southampton, leaving the Eagles in the top flight’s relegation zone. Warnock had only joined up with the Selhurst Park outfit in August 2014.

With Palace on a six match winless streak in the Premier League and having taken just one victory in their last twelve league matches, it may not be the biggest surprise. But will it be the right move from the London club?

There is a massive match for Palace on Sunday as Keith Millen once again takes up the helm as temporary boss, as the Eagles go into battle with QPR in what is likely to turn out to be a relegation scrap. Palace start the game two points behind 16th placed Rangers.

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is leading the way at the head of the Next Palace Manager betting list, taking an early 3/1 market lead ahead of Tony Pulis. Pulis pulled off some heroics with Palace last season, saving a seemingly-doomed Palace from Premier League relegation. But the Welshman walked out of the club just before the start of the new season, which was when the club brought in Warnock.

Pulis is 7/1 at online betting site Bet Victor to make what appears to be a very unlikely return.

After losing Ian Holloway in October of 2013, Palace are now looking for their fourth manager in 14 months. Other early names floating around are Tony Popovic, Victor Pereira, Steve Coppell and Alan Pardew who are all 6/1 options.
