Portsmouth v Gillingham Predictions & Betting Odds – 12th October 2019

Routine home win for Pompey

Portsmouth v Gillingham Betting Tips – EFL League One, 12th October 15.00pm

Portsmouth and Gillingham meet at Fratton Park in an EFL League One fixture on Saturday. Pompey are slowly but surely starting to find some form, and Kenny Jackett’s men will be targeting a third League One victory in a row at the weekend. As for the Gills, they are currently in 15th position, a point and a place above Portsmouth. The hosts are the strong favourites in this meeting, but can Gillingham pick up a shock result?

Portsmouth News and Form – Pompey too strong for the Gills on home turf?

Portsmouth started their season in poor fashion, winning only one of their opening seven league games. During that mediocre run, Kenny Jackett’s boys were beaten three times, losing to Shrewsbury Town, Sunderland and Wycombe Wanderers, all by one goal.

However, since that defeat at Adams Park last month, Pompey have won two in a row in League One. After beating lowly Bolton Wanderers 1-0 at home, Portsmouth picked up a 2-1 away win at Doncaster Rovers last Saturday. Ellis Harrison’s last-gasp goal gave Pompey a vital three points at the Keepmoat Stadium.

After missing out on promotion in the play-offs last season, Portsmouth’s main aim will be a top two finish this time around. The Hampshire club are beginning to hit their stride, but can they secure a third successive League One win this weekend?

Gillingham News and Form – Can Evans’ men pick up a surprise win?

Like Portsmouth, Gillingham also made a poor start to their season. The Gills drew two and lost two before sealing a big 5-0 home win over Bolton in late August.

Steve Evans’ side fell to back-to-back defeats at the end of September, losing 1-0 at home to high-flying Ipswich Town and 3-0 at Oxford United. However, they responded with a comfortable 3-1 home win over struggling Southend United last weekend, with Alfie Jones, Stuart O’Keefe and Brandon Hanlan getting the goals. They did lose 4-0 to Ipswich in the cup in midweek, though.

Gillingham have been in patchy form of late, but they are capable of beating anyone on their day. Having said that, though, the Kent club have yet to win away in the league since beating Blackpool 3-0 at Bloomfield Road on the final day of last season. Can they pick up their first away win of this campaign on Saturday?

Portsmouth v Gillingham Predictions

Portsmouth win: Having beaten Oxford on penalties in the EFL Trophy in midweek, Pompey have now won three league and cup games on the spin since losing to rivals Southampton in the EFL Cup last month. Three points on Saturday will make it a hat-trick of League One wins in a row.

Portsmouth are beginning to find their feet, and Jackett’s side should be too strong for Evans’ Gills at the weekend. Back the hosts to win -1 at 7/4. I also fancy Portsmouth to keep a clean sheet on home turf, so check out the decent price of 15/8 for Pompey to win to nil.
