Portugal v Netherlands Betting Tips – UEFA Nations League, 9th June 7.45pm

The Portuguese will be starting the first UEFA Nations League Final as the favourites. They do have home soil advantage on their side for this game and have Cristiano Ronaldo in great form. But with the rapidly developing Dutch side, this may be a pretty even and open contest. Neither side held back in their semi final matches, so hopefully, the Final lives up to its billing. Portugal News and Form

Cometh the man, cometh the hour and all that. Cristiano Ronaldo fired Portugal to the Nations League Final with a hattrick against Switzerland in their semi-final tussle. Portugal won 3-1. What a huge asset to have back in the fold as they strive to be the first ever Nations League holders. Ronaldo is at 5/6 in the anytime goalscorer market* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 7th, 2019 at 10:44 p.m.). Without is their main man, Portugal qualified for the Finals without him, Ronaldo not taking part in the group stage.

With his three goals against the Swiss, he scored more goals in that game than Portugal had managed in their previous four (2). The success over Switzerland moved Portugal to a nine-match undefeated streak of form, with a W4 D5 record in that. They were on a run of four straight draws before beating Switzerland. Portugal have only taken the two clean sheets from their last seven fixtures. So there is a decent chance that the Dutch are going to get at them. Even though they came through their semi, there were periods when the Swiss really had Portugal rattled.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 3 of Portugal’s last 5 goals
  • The Netherlands have 2 clean sheets in 6

Netherlands News and Form

The Netherlands will be more than pleased with their effort against England in their semi-final. They were well on top throughout but had to go to extra time. The reason for that really was being so wasteful in front of goal because they had carved out enough chances to have taken the victory in regulation time. In the end, England’s defence capitulated in extra time, the Dutch winning 3-1. The Dutch played some great stuff on the day, with midfielder Frenkie de Jong putting on a star showing.

The Netherlands topped out their Nations League group ahead of Germany and France, which was not exactly the expected outcome there. Over their last nine games, they have gone W4 D3 L2 (90 minutes). Even with the centre half pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Mathias de Ligt, they do look as if their defence needs more work. The Netherlands have taken two clean sheets from their last six games. Counting their extra time against England, each of their last four games have produced over 3.5 goals. Hopefully the final produces the goods as well.

Portugal v Netherlands Predictions

Portugal to win: This should be a very competitive game. Both teams look good and both are full of confidence. With home soil advantage and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is such a big difference-maker, it is Portugal who could shade it. It could be close though, so looking at Portugal to lift the trophy looks a good proposition.
