Portugal News and Form – European champions too strong for Lithuania on home turf?

Portugal have played six Euro 2020 qualifying games up to this point, winning half of those. After welcoming Lithuania to the Estadio Algarve this Thursday, Portugal end their group campaign with an away fixture in Luxembourg City at the weekend.

Fernando Santos’ boys have had a mixed bag of results in Group B up until now. Having started with back-to-back draws at home with Ukraine and Serbia, the Navigators beat the Serbians away from home on matchday three. They then cruised to wins over Lithuania and Luxembourg before being beaten by Ukraine in Kiev last time out.

Portugal have left themselves with work to do in their last two matches. However, with Serbia facing group winners Ukraine in their final game, the Portuguese will fancy their chances of bettering their results. The UEFA Euro 2016 winners go into this home fixture as the big 1/25 favourites.

Portugal vs Lithuania Head to Head

These two nations have met three times, with Thursday’s game being the first meeting on Portuguese soil since 2004

Portugal have won all three previous games with ease, scoring 14 and conceding just three

Back in September, Cristiano Ronaldo scored four times in a 5-1 Portuguese win in Vilnius

Two of the three matches have ended in 5-1 wins for Portugal, with the other being a 4-1 triumph

Key-Facts – Portugal vs Lithuania

  • Portugal have won half of their six qualifiers so far
  • Lithuania have taken just one point from seven Group B matches
  • The Portuguese had won five in a row before losing to Ukraine last month

Lithuania News and Form – Lithuanians to crash to a big defeat in Portugal?

Lithuania have taken just one point from a possible 21 in Group B so far. The Lithuanians have drawn one and lost six, scoring five and shipping 19 in the process. Lithuania’s only point came when they picked up a 1-1 draw with Luxembourg at the LFF Stadium in Vilnius back in June.

Lithuania, who are currently placed in 132nd spot in the current FIFA World Rankings, have not won a game in any competition since beating Armenia 1-0 in a friendly fixture back in March 2018. That remains the nation’s only victory in over three years.

The Lithuanians have been the whipping boys in Euro 2020 qualifying Group B so far, and this will be another stern test. Still, can Valdas Urbonas’ troops cause an almighty upset in Portugal on Thursday night?

Portugal vs Lithuania Predictions

Portugal win: Santos’ men left Kiev with zero points in their last game, as first-half goals from Roman Yaremchuk and Andriy Yarmolenko were too much for Portugal to come back from. Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty with 18 minutes to go, but that wasn’t enough.

The Portuguese will be desperate to hit back with a sizeable win over minnows Lithuania at the Estadio Algarve in midweek. The European Championship holders are available at the decent price of 1/2 to win both halves.

When these two met in Vilnius two months ago, Lithuania went into half time level. However, Portugal will be expecting to win this one with ease, so back Santos’ side to be winning at half time and full time on Thursday, which you can get at 1/4.
