Liverpool facing striker dilemma as goal search continues

Saturday 1st November

 

Newcastle v Liverpool (kick off 12:45)

In the opening game of the weekend, Newcastle will miss influential midfielder Cheick Tiote as they host Liverpool. A calf problem is keeping him on the sidelines, while striker Papiss Cisse will definitely miss out due to a complication after knee surgery. Mike Williamson is still recovering from a muscle strain and will not be risked.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has no new injury worries to contend with but will continue to be without Daniel Sturridge, Mamadou Sakho and Jon Flanagan. The Reds have been struggling in front of goal recently and Rogers must decide on which combination of Fabio Borini, Ricjie Lambert and Mario Balotelli to face Newcastle.

 

 

 

Arsenal v Burnley (kick off 15:00)

Arsenal continue to nurse a lengthy injury list. Jack Wilshere is a big doubt with a knee problem, while Kieran Gibbs is also rated 50/50. Theo Walcott continues his rehabilitation but will miss out on this game. Laurent Koscielny (Achilles), Mesut Ozil (knee), David Ospina (thigh), Yaya Sanogo (hamstring), Abou Diaby (calf), Olivier Giroud (fractured foot) and Mathieu Debuchy (ankle) are out.

Burnely are anticipating welcoming back Dean Marney after a hamstring injury after the midfielder trained without problem all week. Steven Reid is nearly ready for a return to first team action following a groin strain but this game comes too soon for him. Matt Taylor is still out aftedr an Achilles injury while Sam Vokes is still out with a knee injury.

 

 

Chelsea v QPR (kick off 15:00)

Chelsea can welcome back star striker Diego Costa after a niggly hamstring problem. Loic Remy and John Obi Mikel are both out but Ramires and Branislav Ivanovic are both abck to bolster the squad as they prepare to face fierce London rivals QPR. Cesar Azpilicueta is banned.

Adel Taraabt is back in the QPR squad after being left out recently. It is thought that he has not lost three stone in weight. Jordon Mutch and Joey Barton are back training but will not be considered for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

 

 

Everton v Swansea (kick off 15:00)

Despite picking up recent knocks, Everton will still be able to field Darron Gibson and Romelu Lukaku against Swansea on Saturday. The same four players as last week occupy the casualty list – Kevin Mirallas, John Stones, Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone.

One of Swansea’s key performers this season, Gylfi Sigurdsson, took a groin knock last weekend but should be able to make the trip to Goodison Park. Ki Sung-yueng hurt his shoulder last week, but should also be passed fit. Federico Fernandez had his recent red card rescinded and is available for selection.

 

 

Hull v Southampton (kick off 15:00)

Hull are set to be unchanged after last week’s draw with Liverpool. Third choice ‘keeper Eldin Jakupovic will keep his place in goal with both Allan McGregor and Steve Harper sidelined. On-loan Gaston Ramirez is ineligible to face his parent club while Tom Ince has jetted off to Nottingham Forest on loan. Michael Dawson, Nikica Jelavic and Robert Snodgrass remain on the casualty list.

Southampton will hope to remain in the top four of the Premier League with a victory over Hull and could be helped by the return of Sadio Mane to the starting XI. The midfielder is back in training and has been included in the matchday squad. Otherwise, Southampton are at full strength.

 

 

Leicester v WBA (kick off 15:00)

Leicester should have skipper Wes Morgan fit and ready to face West Brom after the defender picked up a minor knock last week. However, Matthew Upson, Zoumana Bakayogo and Ben Hamer are all on the absentee list.

An Achilles problem is keeping Jonas Olsson out of the West Brom travelling squad, and he’ll be accompanied in the physio room by Silvestre Varela, who nursing a groin injury. Claudio Yacob has returned to the club after some compassionate leave and is available for selection.

 

 

 

Stoke v West Ham (kick off 15:00)

Stoke will face an in-form West Ham outfit minus suspended pair Peter Crouch and Phil Bardsley. Definite absentees are Robert Huth, Glenn Whelan and Peter Odemwingie, while there remains doubts about Marc Muniesa, who is carrying a minor ankle injury.

West Ham striker Diafra Sakho hurt his shoulder last weekend and will face a last minute fitness test. In good news for Hammers fans, James Tomkins and Matt Jarvis both return to the matchday squad, but watching from the stands will be Andy Carroll, Mauro Zarate and Guy Demel.

 

 

 

 

 

Sunday 2nd November

 

Manchester City v Manchester United (kick off 13:30)

David Silva will be missing for about three weeks from the Manchester City squad due to a knee injury. Yaya Toure should have recovered sufficiently from a groin strain to feature while Frank Lampard is still out with a thigh problem. Samir Nasri made a comeback midweek after groin surgery and could be included in the matchday squad.

Manchester United captain Wyne Rooney is back from a ban. However, Radamel Falcao, Phil Jones, Johnny Evans and Paddy McNair are all still out with various injuries. Jesse Lindgard is still out with a knee injury but Antonio Valencia is back after shrugging off a hamstring strain.

 

 

Aston Villa v Tottenham (kick off 16:00)

Alan Hutton is out for Aston VIlla with a sprained ankle and he could face three weeks on the sidelines. Philippe Senderos is out with a thigh problem, while Fabian Delph is out until after Christmas with a dislocated shoulder.

Harry Kane impressed for Southampton in the League Cup midweek and could have earned a starting berth. Expect Hugo Lloris, Younes Kaboul, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Emmanuel Adebayor all to return to the team but Nabil Bentaleb (ankle) and Kyle Walker (pelvis) remain in the company of the physio.
