Real Madrid v Manchester United UEFA Super Cup Betting Tips

Well, there really hasn’t been a great deal of hype about this UEFA Super Cup meeting. But it kicks off on Tuesday night and Manchester United will fly over to Macedonia to meet Real Madrid for it. This will be a clash between two of the continent’s most decorated clubs of course and there is nothing like starting off the new season where you left off last term, by winning a trophy. Obviously, this isn’t the most important trophy, but it’s success nonetheless. United are here of course after their 2-0 win over Ajax in the Europa League Final. In winning that, they became the fifth side to win all three major UEFA club competitions with that success.

This will be the fourth Super Cup that United will have partaken in and their record from the previous three is W1 L2. They won their first ever appearance in 1991 as they beat FK Crvena Zvezda (remember that one?) while in 1999 they lost to Lazio and then in 2008 they lost against Zenit St Petersburg. This is a tough game for them to try and get a win in as well because they are kicking off in Skopje as underdogs. No club from England has won the UEFA Super Cup since Liverpool’s success in 2005 with Chelsea and United losing attempts since then. Both teams to score at Coral is a price of 4/6 and Romelu Lukaku is up at a price of 13/8 in the anytime goalscorer market. This will be the 11th meeting between United and Real Madrid, with United trailing 2-4 in the head to head. The goal count is close though 20-16 in favour of Madrid from those meetings.

The most recent time that these two were together was in that epic 2012/13 Champions LEague meeting which Real Madrid won 3-2 and that also proved to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s last European tie in charge of the Red Devils. Cristiano Ronaldo scored in both of those matches for the Spaniards and he is a price of 11/4 in the Coral First Goalscorer market. Real Madrid lifted the Champions League trophy again last season, becoming the first side ever to win it in back to back seasons. Real Madrid have a winning pedigree in the UEFA Super Cup, with them having gone W3 L2 from their previous five They have won their last three UEFA Super Cup games on the bounce after losing their opening two.

No team has won successive UEFA Super Cups since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990 so the Spaniards can get another piece of history here. Spain have triumphed in the last three UEFA Super Cups, and in seven of the last eight. Over 2.5 goals at Coral is a price of 8/11. Although Real Madrid starts their domestic season a week later than United start theirs, Los Merengues will be in action in the Spanish Super Cup next weekend so should be close to full match sharpness by now. Real Madrid have lost one of their last 18 European matches and are unbeaten in their last ten games against Premier League opposition (W7 D3). Madrid’s overall record against English clubs is P34 W14 D10 L10. United are on an unbeaten 11 match streak in Europe and their record is W13 D20 L16 against La Liga opposition.

Real Madrid to win: The first game of real meaning for both of these ahead of the new season. United will have their hands full against a full-strength Real Madrid side. The Spaniards just don’t lose often enough to not back them to win games and they are value to do so here in a game which also sees both teams score.
