A lone goal from Sadio Mane got Senegal through their round of sixteen tie against Uganda. They are now the outright favourites to lift the title at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Back in the group stage they only qualified in second place behind Algeria. That was after Senegal came up short against the Algerians in their big clash. In the round of sixteen against Uganda, Senegal had been strong favourites, but they found their opponents resilient and tough to break down.

Benin News and Form

Benin went into their round of sixteen tie against Morocco as heavy underdogs. However, they did what they do best which is defend, but surprisingly took the lead in the game. They could not hold on though as the Moroccans got one back but the game went to a penalty shootout. Benin won that shoot out 4-1. Benin qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament as one of the best third-placed teams having finished behind both Ghana and Cameroon in Group F. They drew each of the three group stage games, so they are a tough side to beat.

Benin are undefeated in seven games now (W3 D4) and they are on a four-match sequence of drawn games. Will they look to sit back and defend, making themselves hard to beat as opposed to pushing and looking for win against Senegal? They may well see the penalty shoot out as their best chance here. Benin have taken a clean sheet in half of their last six games. Mickale Pote is still their top scorer in the tournament with two goals, which were scored in their opening 2-2 draw against Ghana.

Senegal v Benin Predictions

Senegal to win: Benin have done pretty well in this tournament in terms of not losing matches. They have been in action against some of the better teams on the continent. But they don’t look to have a winning touch about them. Senegal have that and can take the win in what will leaky be a low scoring game.
