Another defeat for the Seasiders

Tranmere Rovers v Southend United Betting Tips – EFL League One, 18th October 19.45pm

Micky Mellon’s Tranmere Rovers and Gary Waddock’s Southend United meet at Prenton Park in EFL League One on Friday night. The Shrimpers have made a horrid start to their season, picking up just four points. As for Rovers, who were promoted from the fourth tier last term, they sit in 18th place on 12 points. The home team are the odds-on favourites in this clash, while the visitors are underdogs at 16/5.

Tranmere Rovers News and Form – Three wins on the spin for Mellon’s men?

Tranmere Rovers went into last Sunday’s game against Coventry City at St Andrew’s as the big outsiders. However, Micky Mellon’s side put in the perfect away performance, with Corey Taylor’s late goal giving them a 1-0 win. That was Rovers’ first away victory of the campaign.

Tranmere have lost just one of their previous seven league and cup matches at Prenton Park. Last time out at home in League One, though, the Whites fell to a 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town. However, they did secure a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa U21 in the Football League Trophy in their previous home fixture.

It could be a long season for last term’s EFL League Two play-off winners, but a home victory on Friday will take them up to 15th before the others play on Saturday.

  • Southend have lost ten of their 12 League One fixtures this term
  • The Seasiders have shipped 32 league goals

Southend United News and Form – Another defeat for the struggling Seasiders?

Southend United have had a miserable season so far. The Essex club have won just one of their 12 League One fixtures, losing ten of the other 11. Only Bolton Wanderers, who started on -15 points, are behind the Shrimpers in the third tier table.

Since picking up a shock 1-0 win at MK Dons in late September, Southend have lost four in a row in all competitions. Caretaker boss Gary Waddock has his work cut out trying to gear up his players for this one, especially after they were thumped 4-1 at home by fellow strugglers Wimbledon last weekend.

Southend’s two wins in all competitions this season have come on the road. Unfortunately, I can only see one winner in this one, and it’s not the Shrimpers.

Tranmere Rovers v Southend United Predictions

Tranmere Rovers win: Micky Mellon will be hoping that his side’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Coventry last Sunday can kick-start a climb up the League One table.

On their way to promotion from League Two last season, Tranmere were excellent at Prenton Park, winning 14 of their 23 home league matches. Rovers should ease past lowly Southend on Friday, so have a punt on the hosts to win -1 at 15/2.

Stefan Payne has been in good form of late, scoring four times in his last nine League One outings. Payne will back himself to get on the scoresheet in Friday’s game, and the 28-year-old is the 5/1 favourite to open the scoring.
