Venezuela News and Form

It was an unbeaten group stage campaign that Venezuela put together. They started things off with a 0-0 against Peru, before playing out to the same scoreline against Brazil. VAR was on their side in that game against the Selecao, as the Brazilians were denied three goals. The Venezuelans took those points and built on them, pushing forward in a positive manner in taking a 3-1 win over the out-of-form Bolivia. So it wasn’t a bad plan from them, keep tight against the stronger opposition and then take their chance against the weaker Bolivians. It’s a big challenge against Argentina next for them.

Venezuela are not an easy side to knock down. They have only lost one of their last eleven games (W5 D5). It is a four-match unbeaten streak that they currently are on, with a win in two of those. One of their last three wins happened against Argentina, which is just another factor which makes this game so wonderfully interesting. They were paired up for a friendly in March earlier this year and Venezuela recorded a 3-1 win. Venezuela have conceded just one goal in their last four games in total. Are they going to be able to dig deep and pull off an upset here at the Copa America against the Albiceleste?

Argentina News and Form

So Argentina suffered an opening loss in the tournament, which immediately put them up against things. That was a 2-0 loss against Colombia. That was quite the setback for them because they had been on top in the game but they couldn’t get anything on the board. There was more frustration to come for them against Paraguay. After falling behind, Lionel Messi got them a point from the penalty spot. But they had luck on their side as Paraguay missed a spot kick to win the match. Argentina’s group stage campaign was completed with a 2-0 win over Qatar.

But against Argentina were not impressive in the fixture. They scored inside the first ten minutes but struggled to put the game to bed. Sergio Aguero finally did with a goal inside the final ten minutes. But all throughout the fixture, Qatar had them troubled on quick counter-attacks. Argentina were never really comfortable until their second goal went in. So they have a lot of improvement to do. Lionel Messi may as well not have been on the pitch against Qatar and their forward line just hasn’t been going all that well. If they don’t get their big guns firing, they are going to have a difficult time going all the way.

Venezuela v Argentina Predictions

Draw: This could be closer than expected. Venezuela has proven to be a tough side to beat and as they have proven this year, they can pull out big results. Argentina have looked a bit clueless going forward and their front line has been quiet and off key. Draw match outright.
