Aston Villa will go in search of a fourth consecutive win in the Championship on Saturday afternoon when they play host to bottom half outfit, Barnsley, at Villa Park, and thus maintain their push for at least a play-off spot.
Wins over Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest have seen Villa bounce back from a five match sequence without a win and indeed, the emphatic 5-0 win over Bristol City left no-one in any doubt as to their intentions!
Villa Park has been a veritable fortress as the hosts have suffered just one defeat on home turf so far this season, which was a surprising 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday, but they’ve since put together a five match run without defeat. In fact, Aston Villa have lost just once in their last 15 league matches at home.
Barnsley make their way from south Yorkshire down to the west midlands on the back of a solid four match run without defeat thanks to draws against Preston North End, Reading and Wolves, along with a 1-0 win away at Championship basement club, Sunderland.
However, draws haven’t been enough to lift The Tykes completely away from the relegation zone and they still find themselves just three points above the bottom three. Wins on the road at Millwall, Burton Albion and Sunderland are all very well, but they’ll be facing superior opposition on Saturday.
Barnsley’s away record stands at 3-4-6 15/20 and they’ve lost all three of their away matches at top six clubs so far, losing at Bristol City, Sheffield United and Wolves.
