ASTON VILLA v BOLTON WANDERERS

Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

Friday night football brings us action from the Championship as two old famous clubs go toe-to-toe in the second tier, with both Aston Villa and Bolton needing a win this evening – read on for the betting tips…

It’s been an eventful couple of weeks for Aston Villa as a changing of the guard has seen former manager Steve Bruce sacked and new manager, Dean Smith ushered into the Villa Park hot-seat. Smith oversaw his first win recently as his side took all three points in a 1-0 home win over Swansea City, but the hosts have since slipped to back-to-back defeats.

Villa have lost their last two matches on the trot with defeats away at Norwich City and a rejuvenated QPR outfit, and there’s now early pressure upon Smith to get a result on Friday night against fellow strugglers, Bolton Wanderers.

Although Aston Villa possess a fairly solid home record which stands at  3-3-1 13/10, the recent losses to Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall as well as the aforementioned Norwich and QPR will have done nothing for Villa’s confidence, and we can expect a nervy affair here.

Bolton Wanderers are situated just two league places and two points below their hosts in the Championship ahead of this important bottom half encounter in the west midlands. It’s also been a tough few weeks for the visitors too as they’ve lost four of their last five matches which has dropped them nearer the bottom three.

Recent losses to Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Hull City have also done little for The Trotters’ Championship survival plans, but they may well fancy their chances of causing an upset at Villa Park on Friday night.

An away record of  2-3-2  6/8 includes early season wins at West Brom and Reading as well as points at Preston North End, Ipswich Town and Rotherham United.

The bookies have Aston Villa priced as extremely short-priced favourites but I can’t have that – my betting tips suggest the value lies with Bolton in this one by using the handicap.
